I need to find a good 12 volt power source to install Auto Meter gauges as well as a power source for the lights without causing catastrophic electrical system failure like in my last car.

You can tap into cig lighter, radio 12v constant or acc on, or ignition acc, or parking light/headlight wire.

Just use a multimeter to find the wire - i.e. if you are gonna do acc, put a multimeter to each of the wires and see which one gets 12v when you turn the key from off -> acc.

Next, unplug the negative of your battery (so you won't cause catastrophic problems).

Then wire up everything and put an in-line fuse for the power wire so u don't blow anything up (if you are paranoid).

Then you're set to go.
