Hello,I just bought cheap aftermarket fog lights. It came with all the wiring to hookup to a switch(which they also provided), my question is how can I hook my new fog lights up so that they only come on when my headlights come on?

Thanks

PS: a walk through would help tremendously! =)

welcome aboard bro!

that would require getting a factory foglight setup that uses the relay. honestly, it's kind of annoying that way. i just re wired mine today to where i can turn them on when i want to. otherwise, you'll probably just have to turn them on when you have your headlights on. i guess you might be able to wire them to your low beam. there are lots of options. a friend of mine just wired them into his parking lights.

ok how do I know which wire is the positive wire? Coming from the drivers side headlight I have blue/white stripe, green/yellow stripe, pink(light purple)/black stripe. My guess is the blue/white stripe wire...but im probably wrong. You guys would know more than me!

Any input helps,thanks

thats an easy thing to do ....just follow the simple steps

1. go to your nearest hardware store or autozone and buy a cheap tester light. should be no more than $4.

2. once you get to your car... clamp the tester light to the negative pole of your battery. ( tester light looks like a screwdriver with a wire hanging out the top.....very easy to use)

3. next unplug the low beam plug off of the headlight.. (you should see at least 2 little prongs or connector pins..)

4. turn the low beam headlight on

5. stick the needle part of the tester light into the holes of the headlight plug until the light turns on. Make sure it turns on.. It should only turn on, on one of the connectors and not the other..... when your light turns on that is telling you that this one is Positive...

NOTE!!!!! : please make sure there is a solid connection between the clamp and the neagtive pole on your battery because if your battery pole is dirty the light will not turn on. So just make sure that u scratch the battery pole a little so it can remove the dirt and expose the metal, and just clamp it down to the area witch you scratched.

To make it simple man.... If you want the fogs to come on with your headlights then splice your postive wire to your positive side parking light wire. Same for the negative. Take another grounding wire from the origninal ground and ground it to the chasis.

This way it will stay on with just your parking lights on too.

How did you do this, I know there is a write-up somewhere but I cannot find it.I have a 3rd generation maxima. I am assuming that it is easy enough to do, that I can do it the same way as a different generation maxima.

Be careful wiring them to the parking lights. Just upgrading to 85w bulbs can melt the factory foglight wiring in Maxima's so I'm not sure what splicing into the parking lights will do.

To find out the wiring color codes, here is the NICO FSM directory:

http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/maxima/

Go to your year and look through the FSM's to determine wiring requirements. If possible, splice in around the headlight relays under the hood.

(ooof....Just noticed we don't have any 3rd-gen FSM's....In that case, find the headlight relay and use a multimeter to determine what the positive and ground is for the relay and use those)
