For anyone trying to add an aftermarket radio (double-din) to the stock Y50 M35/M45 dash, here is a pretty detailed tutorial I put together. Hopefully this helps some of the people who are sick of the stock system these cars came with.

Let me know if there is anything I should add or change... hit me up on Instagram @rookie55

Very detailed...any chance you can make a real HowTo using the templates in my signature instead of a PPTX? It would probably serve the community better. Just use the same images.

Great write up. Obviously you spent a lot of time researching this project. Did you look at something like the JL Audio Fix 86 to accomplish what you did with the Pioneer headunit?

Does everything work in the center stack (navi, fuel economy, etc..) after the headunit addition?

Please post pics when you get the pieces back from the painters. I would love to see how this looks completed.

how's the sound? what factory functionalities did you lose with this conversion? also any reason why you wouldn't go for a Kenwood or Eclipse?

I finally got enough time to load the files.

That is neat work! Thanks for sharing. I can't wait to see pictures and video of the final product.

Sorry, just seeing this. Yes, the Navigation, Fuel Eco, A/C, everything works after the install. Hopefully the pieces come back from Paint this week!

The sound is incredible. When you are sitting in the driver's seat, with the speakers built into the seat actually being functional now, it really is MUCH better. I didn't lose any factory functions besides the stock CD Changer and the clock, but that is no big loss at all. To be honest, I chose the AppRadio mainly due to the CarPlay feature (I have an iPhone), as well as the fact that I was able to get it on eBay for just over $200 and the damn thing looks brand new. I am a fan of the Eclipse and Kenwood units... just didn't want to spend the money (especially since I wasn't sure if this was going to work or not).

In addition to the Power Point and KeyNote presentations, I have added an MP4 video file as well as a YouTube link for anyone using a mobile device that cannot view the larger documents.

Finally got all the pieces back from paint; the paint has some imperfections, but overall I am very satisfied with he outcome. Everything works perfectly fine, no issues.

@Mazdarotary - How did you connect to the speakers from the new radio?

Holy crap just found this post after searching for over a year. I have the base 6 speaker unit without the bose amp so I don’t have anything in the trunk. Would I just omit the 9 wire step and just move on to wiring the steering wheel controls?
