Who makes it? Did you install it yourself? What was the price? Are you satisfied with it?

Back in the early '90s, Mazda made a retrofit kit available through their dealers for a reasonable price. I added it to a '92 Protege. Worked great for 183k miles.

Has anyone thought that maybe it's just a matter of using a steering wheel with the integrated button? As someone who working in the embedded software industry, I doubt the cruise control is software disabled. If there isn't a button to activate it, it won't be activated. I'm fairly certain that all they're doing for the 08, is putting in a steering wheel with the cruise controls.

If there are a couple of people who live close to each other, one with an S and one with an SL, they could test the theory.

It was something you said.

I have been looking through the On-line 2007 Versa manual for clues to pre-wiring for cruise. New hardware that is probably needed consists of 1) spiral cable with in the steering column, ref page EC-473; 2) ASCD control switch on the steering wheel, ref page EC- 473; ASCD brake switch next to stop light switch, ref page EC - 478; and possibly the integrated combination meter unit which contains the MIL check engine light, ref page EC - 564. Since the OBD II problem codes are listed, I can't imagine Nissan burning two separate programs for the V.

Note: EC is the engine control section in the manual. All other components should already be part of the wiring harness(es).

I will start looking for the color-coded wiring assignments later to see if I can find them at the connectors.

Good point... all the hardware is already there, since these cars use fly-by-wire.
