Hi This topic might have been already posted before, but I would like to ask everyone again.

I would really like to have cruise control on my Versa 1.8S '07. I just went to Nissan service to do oil changes and stuff. And I asked the service guy if it is possible for my versa to install aftermarket cruise control. The guy said I can, and he gave me the number to call.

It's called "Dealerworks"http://www.dealerworksinc.com/

And I contacted the place and they told me that it will cost $449+tax for installation.

Do you all think it's worth it? or simply it is not recommended to install aftermarket cruise control?

Please give me advice on this.

Thank you

I don't know why anyone would recommend against aftermarket cruise...but as to "if it's worth it" - that just comes down to a personal decision. If you drive a lot of highway miles, then I'd say your right foot/leg and back would probably think it was well worth it!

I went to Google and typed in aftermarket cruise and the first hit took me to a site with a Versa cruise module for $349.95. It was only a $200 option on the S model, but I know, hindsight is 20/20.

According to their site...

Quote »This Vehicle is a Drive-By-Wire System (Electronic Throttle Control) No Servo to install. The cruise is built into the throttle system. You need only to install the parts to activate and operate the cruise.[/quote]So it sounds like the install would be pretty straightforward, but it sounds as if the place you mentioned would be charging $100 for installation. So you might shop around.

But could the Nissan dealer not do this for you, or are they just more expensive?

The Rostral cruise control carried by Dealerworks is a long-time manufacturer. If I remember correctly, they bought out the supplier to GM about 10 years ago.

The $350 price is also a standard price for this product. I did quite a bit of research earlier this year, but haven't followed through.

The only new item to mention is Rostra also makes a wireless controller in addition to the stalk unit. Supposedly it can be mounted anywhere.

I recently saw an after market cruise in a small Chevy and it looked like crud. The only way it could be mounted was sticking straight up.

So make sure you know exactly how and where the installer will put the controller stalk.

Eventually, I will add cruise to my wife's V, but I want to wait long enough so that installers have some experience with the Versa. Don't want them experimenting on the wife's V. She would kill me if anything went wrong.
