I have no idea how it's set up on a Nissan or what's available, but I did a lot of research on this topic for my Scion. It turns out that the Toyota cruise system on a Corolla will easily install on the Scion xA and xB. There are many people who have purchased it and installed it with great success. If that's the case, maybe there is something similar available for the Versa. Our Versa SL came with it, but I bet there are aftermarket options.

There's one person on here who's installed it and liked it, can't remember who... I think they were from Texas... maybe Deke40 or RetiredTexans? I dunno. I'm having trouble finding the thread, myself.

I know the pain of search... you get too much, or too little... lol

That's not a dumb question. Only the SL comes with it standard. I'm not sure if it's available as an option on the S model or not, but I know it doesn't come standard on the S.

And there is my problem! It wasn't even an option in the S. If it was - my Dealer would have been willing to add it after I bought my Versa. The Instrument Cluster even has the Cruise Control Icon - so at least I know they are using the same Instrument Cluster.

All SL's come standard with cruise.

Cruise was not available, even as an option, on the '07 S.

It is now an option on the '08 S.

I foolishly thought because my Versa had the Power Package it had Cruise Control. Had I known it didn't I would have moved up to the SL. Oh well - you live and learn. Otherwise we love our little Versa!

The 2008 Versa S cruise control is a $200 option on the stickers I saw 3 weeks ago.

I am still pursuing 2 lines of cc research.

Rostra after market cc is priced at $350 for the hardware without labor from your local dealer. It appears there are 2 kinds of button controls available. One version is a stalk that mounts on the trim around the steering wheel and the other is a wireless unit that looks small enough to attach to the steering wheel itself. I haven't contacted the local Rostra dealers yet as I would likw for them to have some experience mounting Versa cruise controls before I spend my $$$. Yes, I'll bet they run $650-700 installed.

The 2nd approach is working the missing parts from the V and locating them i the parts catalog. My starting point is the Vs service manual wiring diagrams and locating (or not) the necessary wiring and connectors. I know the brake and steering wheel switches are available. The wiring, called a spiral wire, is already installed. So, what's missing you say?

I can't find the 2 strand wire and connector to the brake switch (located next to the stop light switch) in the wire bundle. I don't have the guts yet to look for the individual wires into the several black boxe connectors for the various cc inter linkage. They may or may not be there.

It seems I have read in other postings that cc is available on Canadian Versa S models. This would tell me the software is probably available, but may not be loaded in my V.

All in all, I feel that cruise control is substantially comlete in the S, but it's evident Nissan dealers don't want the business of adding the missing pieces. My dealer is happy to send me elsewhere.

It has taken me a long time to get to this point, but I have certainly learned a lot more about my V

Overall mpg is 30.5 +/- driving in Dallas area with air on all the time. Highway yields 37 - 42 mpg.

Thanks for the update. It is amazing - you would think the Dealer would jump at an opportunity to make more money. I already accepted the fact that it will cost around $400 to $500 for Cruise. I would gladly pay that to have it - that's how much I love Cruise Control. We have only driven our Versa in City/Hwy and after 4 fill ups - average 32-33 MPG. We are very happy with that. I really got concerned after reading others getting in the 20's - scared me to death! I guess it is all how you drive. Our Versa only as the 4AT - not the CVT.

Well, let me know when you make your final decision on the Cruise Control and I'll let ya know as well.

Update: I just got a call from my Nissan Dealer. It seems that they now have a representative that handles aftermarket installations. I get my Cruise Control installed next Friday. It won't be a Nissan Product but since they are making all the arrangements (and no doubt getting a cut) - it won't affect my Nissan Warranty.

I'm guessing nowadays an aftermarket cruise control will operate off the cars computer(s) to maintain speed. If not, I'm not sure how you'd add it.I had an aftermarket cruise control added to my 1990 Bronco II. It was what they called a "purple brain" because the main wire harness/computer was bright purple. They then fixed 4 magnets around my drive shaft with a sensor placed above it. This is how it maintained the speed.

I can't remember the brand of the product though.

I would love to have this feature also. The rest I can live without. If there's a way to get to factory (or near) spec then I'm definitely interested.

There's good news and bad news regarding addition of cruise control (cc) to the Versa. I have a very early 2007 SL and cc wasn't available in August 2006. First the bad, I only found 1 Rostra dealer in the Dallas area who would even talk to me when told the unit would go into a Nissan. In general, the tech stated he wouldn't touch another cc install into any Nissan product. Why you ask: the tech said Nissan's wiring and circuit components were difficult to trace out and sometimes strange things happened to the components in the circuit where the cc was attached. His last install was a truck and it came back to him 6 or 7 times before he threw up his hands in dispair. Simply put, he said "don't do it".

The good is encouraging though if you' re willing to spend the $$$$$. I live close enough to drive to Courtesy Nissan in Richardson, Texas. I asked one of the persons manning the internet sales desk if cc was possible and what it would take, parts and money. In a nutshell, a couple of wires, a couple of switches and control module are needed. The cost of the control module and labor are the drivers. Nissan won't take the old module in trade, only sell you a new one. My last foray into cc installation questions was early spring 2008 so its possible the Nissan response would be different today considering continued Versa owner interest. If memory serves me correctly, I remember a SWAG of 800 to 1,000 dollars. That's too pricey for my blood.

Why not call Courtesy Nissan and ask them what it would cost for the parts and if they would install it?

Please post your conversation results if you follow through.
