I have contacted Rostra Precision Controls http://www.Rostra.com about their Versa cruise control. It can be installed on either the 4AT or 6MT. Price is about $350. They provided me a list of North Dallas area businesses selling and installing their products. I am still researching buying this add-on device, but am checking to see if I can obtain and substitute Versa's OEM steering wheel switch set for the add-on stalk.

Let us know what you come up with! I'd definately rather spend $350 for cruise than pay to upgrade to an SL.

Aftermarket cruise controls never have the quality or reliabilty that OEM does.

However, that's less than half the price my nissan dealership wanted to charge me... and they were using an aftermarket cruise if memory serves.

were they quoting you the price for just the unit, or the unit and installation, because I will tell you right now that a good stereo shop will charge you about $175+/- to install the unit. Also some shops will not touch anything on your car unless you buy the accessory from them directly, and others might, but either not offer you any warranty on their labor, or next to no warranty. It will be hard to find a shop that will install it and offer a lot of perks for doing it. Just giving you a heads up.

Is cruise control really that important to have???

I mean I hardly use mine, I have gone on quite long distance drives in my old car which is a 94 Suzuki Sidekick, and I didn't have cruise control and did not care. I mean it is something that I personally do not need. Wanna buy my unit? But seriously, I don't see why it is that important, can anybody indulge me?

Please find out if the $300 include installation. I will be buying a V, but don't want to pay for the SL upgrade since all that I am interested in is the cruise control.

Responding to my fellow car enthusiast up top, I take 14 hours trips to Mexico and trust me, cruise control is something you need on a trip like that.

I have cruise control in my Xterra & rarely use it on long trips to Moab or Madison. To much traffic to keep a constant speed.

Aftermarket installs of cruise control normally toss up red flags for insurance companies. Some with refuse to renew or provide coverage for aftermarket systems of they find out you have it installed.

I have the SL and use my cruise ALL the time. Even just on the freeway to school. I know it seriously improves gas milage.

Wait until you're older and your knees and/or ankles go, you'll be screaming for cruise.

Long trips around here truly suck without cruise. Too inconsistent of terrain. I also use it while at work because I have to cruise fairly long distances in mid-day (nonexistent) traffic.

Dealership I bought the car from quoted me $650 for another company they work with to install it for me. Including parts and install.

To move up to the SL is more than just a CC unit. You also get the following: Alloy Wheels, Sot Pad On IP and Uppor Door Trim, Folding Assist Grips w dampers; Driver Vanit Mirror, woven Seat Cloth & Door Panel Trim, Tricot Woven Headliner, 6 Way Driver Seat, Front Armrest folding,Rear Folding Armrest, Dual Map Lights, W/ overhead Console and an Anti-theft system. Cost in Canada is $700/ The tech package is another $1000. All of this is well worth the 1700 smakeroes.

Cruise control is excellent to have. While driving, I can eat my breakfast, have a conversation on my phone, do crossword puzzles, brush my teeth, and even surf the web all at once. If you don't have cruise control, use a brick. I'll sell you a brick for $300.

lolz!

I take long trips too, but I do not see it as a necessity as some of you do.

I am still working final cost figures. $350 was cost of the Rostra kit. I started contact with the first of three local installers this morning. My research has shown that Rostra makes OEM cruise control for some cars, just don't know which ones. Rostra bought the cruise control business from Dana Automotive many years ago.

I drive from Dallas to Chicago in one day two to four times each year and find cruise reduces driving fatigue for me. This is true for the amount of IH driving I do to get anywhere outside the Dallas area.

I put aftermarket cruise on my 1992 Mazda Protege and it worked perfectly for 243K miles.

I checked with my Nissan service department last week when changing oil about OEM cruise control. The service manager said Nissan would never market cruise for the Versa S, then recommended I work with the aftermarket product. He seemed positive about qulity and reliability of it.

Most of that stuff is just amenities, If the SL upgraded to all wheel ABS breaks! that will make it more attractive for me then a vanity mirror, arm rest, dual map lights etc.

Is it necessary? No. Is it very helpful? Yes.

I use it everytime I make trips on the thruway. If I didn't have it, I'd be fine, but I prefer giving my legs a rest when I can.

Clipsed clipsed clipsed.... your driving style may be different from many of us. I drive long country back roads all day long while working, and my commute to and from work is via 50 mph rural road (about 10 miles one way). I use cruise CONSTANTLY, as it lets my foot rest for a little while, and helps me maintain a constant speed. My last vehicle did not have cruise, which was one of the deciding factors in trading it in. Some other people on this board may be in the same position as me, which is why we love cruise control so much. I take it you do alot of city driving and street racing/car shows (to show your custom electronics and such).

I live in LA, so in this city there really is not much of a use for it, but I do take long trips sometimes, quite often to Las Vegas and Laughlin, sometimes down to Mexico with my family, and cruise was not something I have needed, but is nice to have, but I still rarely use it, maybe once a month. I have not entered into any car shows yet, but plan to, and street racing is not something that I really do.
