I will soon be installing some 6.5" a/d/s 246ix components in my front doors. I would rather rip my arm off than mount the crossovers in my trunk and run new wires through my car. I already yanked everything out of the interior to install a new hu several months ago and I tried to run everything I needed then, but I didn't think about the crossovers as I didn't have the components yet. The crossovers are approximately 1.5 x 3 x 4" and I am going to try to get them in the doors somewhere. Has anyone out there put their crossovers in the doors of their maxima, preferably a 5th gen like mine?

I got a buddy at a local audio shop that helped me figure out what to do. I just used factory wiring cause i didn't want to mess with the factory setup between the door and car. I got a set of component Kenwood excelons (1" tweet oversized 6.5s) with crossover KFC-X1700p. all i did was hook it all up right under the glove box and steering column. found the right two wires (+/-) going into the door and tied in there(input from radio and output right back into the door with factory wires, ran new wires for the tweets(very easy) and left enough wire to leave it behind the trim under the dash. the little kick panel piece on the floor. Sounds awsome looks completely factory, and i still dont have an aftermarket yet... waiting on my cq-c9801u panasonic. 31rmsx4 and 70watt/4 peak love digi amp

anyhow....hope it helps man.

oh, be sure to get some aftermarket speaker risers to fit the doors. I missed that somewhere when i was looking into it...but my buddy at the aduio place just made some rings out of 3/4 mdf and works great.

Wow. It took me about 2 hours to get the wires identified. The ones on the passenger side weren't that tough, but finding the ones on the driver's side were a giant pain in the ***. I finally found them in one of the white plugs up under the fuse box. Stripping them sucked too. But I wouldn't even want to attempt to run new wires through the door grommet. I have to figure out how to mount my crossovers and tweeters, but I see what you are saying about where you put the crossovers. Should work, I just need more time to work on it.

Did you have the Bose system in your car? Or maybe your mids were deeper than mine, because my mids were almost identical to my factory speakers depth and even the mounting pattern. Just curious.

i had 1" tweeters. what i did is take the tweeters and ran new wires up to the stock location. I hot glued the tweeters to the panel. I am not sure but yours should have been in a little encasement with a grill over the front of the tweeter. I just placed the tweeter right on the grill of the panel and then put some hot glue around the side of the tweeter. Just don't use too much at one time, it takes too long to cool and harden and it will seep down in front of the tweeter and get into the grill in the panel and it ain't fun to get out.

and yeah, the wiring was a BIG PAIN IN THE BUTT!!!.......I had never done this to a car with factory tweets so i had to get my buddy from the audio place to teach me a trick with an ohm meter so see how the wiring was and make sure it was the right wires. i will say that nissan did a good job weathering the wires between the door and car....like you i also wasn't even going to attempt to dig into that.

hope that helps

no i didnt have the bose system. the factory speakers have the plastic risers attached..like part of the speaker. I wanted to save my whole factory system incase i trade it in i will have the original system and can take mine out. so i didnt cut out the speaker and use the plastic risers off the factory. I have both sets of excelon speakers retail for 550$ off ebay for 127 shipping and all. I dont know if i can find that deal again. components retail 350 and the rear 2 ways retail 200.... i did not get them brand new so i didnt get any brackets that come with new speakers, but i dont think they raise the speaker up any, just adapt 6 1/2s for 6 3/4. either way i had to have the risers cause it would hit the window. the rear speakers i didnt, cause the window doesnt go down all the way. not sure that type of speakers you have, but where they shallow mount? or did the brakets with the speakers raise the speaker up enough?

The bose mid was mounted in a riser cup that pushes it about 3/4" out of the door sheet metal. The a/d/s 246ix mid was nearly identical to the bose mid for depth. I was even able to use the same screws and holes that the bose mid used. Mounting the crossover took some thought. I put it under the steering column where you said using 2 of the 4 mounting holes in the crossover to bolt it to the plastic under the column. I have my driver's side components done, including dynamatting the door (partially) and the A-pillar. I just can't believe how difficult everything is. Takes longer than I would have ever imagined (about 6 hours so far). Hopefully the passenger side goes easier, my patience is running out!
