Hi,

Just acquired a new to us 2013 M37x and love it. Just broken in with 30,000 miles. Has good tech features, but does not include the collision avoidance/lane changing/blind side capabilities.

Therefore, I am looking at the Safe Driving Systems sonar based RD-140 system with all those features. It looks reliable with good references, but I'm curious if anyone has installed such a system on their Infiniti. I spoke with our dealer in Portland, OR (Beaveton Infiniti) and they suggest kindly that to have them add the desired system using Nissan parts would be a tad bit spendy.

I'm a newby to the forum and so will appreciate any guidance in this matter. We are in the "winter" years and therefore want (and need) all the tech safety aids we can get.

Thanks in advance.

The OEM collision avoidance system is tied into the brake system which applies them if it senses you are traveling too fast in proximity to the car ahead, so I think it would be waaay expensive to get that feature tied into this aftermarket system.

BUT, looking at their website, it appears their system uses a camera, radar, and visual and audio alert device to warn drivers of an unsafe distance and lane departure, it also looks like that the company will send a technician to install it in your car (their website does not mention prices, but a consumer reports summary of their product mentioned $1100 for the base system and $1700 for base system + lane departure - which relies on the windshield camera, installed) I don't think it would be too hard to install if you know anyone with a little car stereo/radar installation know how...but not sure if they will just send you the system parts only.

good luck with your new ride, NICE choice...

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I used the wrong word. It is a crash warning system, not avoidance system. I do understand the latter means the applications of brakes.

For those interested in adding warning systems to their infinities, here is an update. I am going ahead with the Safe Driving system for the collision warning and lane changing functions. I have chosen not to get their blind side warning system as it is sonar based. Instead I am planning on installing a radar based system as that is the technology that manufacturers are using on the newest cars. Looking at Voxx ACABSD and a couple of Goshers products. Any experienced feedback will be appreciated.

Project Complete!

About three weeks ago, Safe Driving Systems flew an installer into Central Oregon (there are no approved installers resident here in the "boondocks."). He installed their Collision Alert system and Lane Changing Warning System. After studying the market for Blind Spot Alert Systems, I procured a Groshers BSDS R 1108 (radar-based system vs visual or sonar-based system). It is more expensive than the other systems, but I understand that the technology is what is being installed on new cars at the factory. The installer installed my Goshers system at a pre-agreed agreed on price.

After several weeks of experience with the systems, we are glad we have done this. We have gotten used to the alerts/warnings. No obtrusive wiring is involved. I would include some photos, but there really is not much to show. The SDS display has been placed between the windshield and the speaker grill centered on the dash. The BLDS "light buttons" are mounted on the front windshield posts about an inch above the dash. No holes were drilled. Everything held in place by double-sided tape and velcro. Anyone interested can find lots of UTube reports on either system.

Nice!

(also, moving this thread to the correct sub-forum as you posted in the older 06-10 forum)
