For those of you who have used after camshafts, what brand and specs did you get, and what kind of gains did you notice/get? Just curious if $900 dollars is worth the horsepower.

$900 for what? A set of cams only run about $400. You also may want to state what setup you have as they will have different results on different turbos and such.

I'm sorry I wasn't more specific. -_- I'm looking at the APEXi cams, 260/10.8. But I was just asking what other people have had success with.

Yeah, I have the Nismo step 2 cams, but nothing to compare it too. ;)

You can definately tell that they're there.

I have heard so much from so many guys.... Here in the states, In japan, and in Austrailia.

From what I can get:

Most cams are the same= HKS & BlitzBest= TomeiOverpriced= Apexi.

All very good and provide significant gains. Couple a set of cams with better mani's and you are sure to notice a pretty big gains. This is all my opinion, and I do plan on a huge head upgrade with HKS or similar cams.

One thing I would like to note is that although cams might show more power on a dyno they do not MAKE power. They move power in the band and the same power at a higher RPM is more power.

Sure they make power. I think you meant to say they move torque to a higher RPM - which thus produces more power.

I dunno. I just have this thing for APEXi. ::Shrugs.:: NISMO is the only other thing I would consider putting in a Nissan. I'm a big NISMO freak too.

Someone say my name?

Tomei 256 are the best cams for any street SR20DET... hands down.

How do you figure Alan? Is it the lobe separation angle, lobe ramp or difference in lift?

I seem to recall the Tomei's being a bit pricier than the HKS as well(can't recall how much).

It's well documented in testing in Japan. Even look on Tomei's website, they suggest their 256 camshafts with just about all their turbo upgrades to the SR20DET up to about 350 - 380hp.

The 260 cams raise the volumetric efficiency of the engine above it's usable rev limit. So basically you are trading more lag, less low end and midrange torque production for a slight gain of 5-6whp on the top end and shortchanging yourself on the flowrates in the long run.

As you well know, area under the curve owns peak values.

However on higher tuned SR engines the 260 - 264 range cams do prove beneficial, once the top end capability is opened up in the engine (lighter internals, lighter valvetrain, larger turbo) they are fitting to the turbochargers profile.

The Tomei camshafts have higher lift than most aftermarket camshafts on the market, and are higher quality units in my opinion. I trust a company that has been tuning Nissan's since the days of the venerable S20 engine and puts their whole effort into 90% Nissan supremecy in their parts line up.

Good stuff. So now.. fill in the blanks.. :PSR20DET Stock redline : _________Parts to raise stock redline : _________New max redline : _______

This is purely for reference, I don't really intend to lengthen the redline on an SR20.

Go do your own homework! I'll tell you that the stock redline is 7800 RPM though.

I thought stock redline was 7500 and fuel cut was at 7800?
