anyone here running different cams on their SR? i am looking at the tomei cams right now. not sure though. cams are a tough choice. i don't want it to be choppy to where i can't drive it for s h i t. i am thinking about getting the tomei 270/270 with 12 dur., but its the closest streetable to drag....

i dunno, i may get the 260/260 11 to be safe...its a decision. i am checking out JWT tomorrow to see what they offer...anyone else have any suggestions?

Hahaha, I was just gonna ask the exact same question. Funny. How about the Greddy ones? Any good? I would like to know as well. How is the performance for those things? Worth the money?

JWT is JWT....the good thing is they drop in.....but whatever.

I'd say get HKS cams and HKS cam gears. The prices are competitive with the rest of the major companies, and HKS quality stands for itself. Usually they list for $220 each iirc...and cam gears are about 200...

Afaik, you drive your car on the street alot, so i dont think you want too much duration ya know....

Greddy/Grex ones are good, tomei are good, jun are great, blah blah, its a repetative question, all the 'good' companies, make 'good' cams..

: )

Jesserpi.

You can buy JWT s4 cams and see great results...but i dont think you should if you care : )

I run HKS 256 degree cams and it idles as good as stock and they provide a fat useable powerband on the street as well. Once the head was ported & polished the Sr20 runs like a Yamaha Banshee 2 stroke.

http://auto.howstuffworks.com/engine.htm

http://auto.howstuffworks.com/camshaft1.htmread that it will tell you everything..

basically:Lift/Duration

260 is the liftthen the duration is after that...(ie 10,11,12)

basically how much the cam will open is lift, and how long it will be open before the turn completes, and the valve closes is duration....

that explaination sucks...bu the link will explain it for you : )

I share similar feelings about JWT as Jesse does. My opinion stems from their ideas about making the SR20 distributed, and their godawful ECU tuning prices and system. JWT will never get any of my money.

JWT has a pretty good reputation in Southern California, among people who have been tuning cars for a while. Some of their employees have been involved with Nissan tuning since the days of the BRE 510's. They might have jacked prices, and questionable business strategies. Yet when it comes to knowledge of Nissan powerplants and vehicles, you'll be hard pressed to find any group of people with more indepth, and well rounded knowledge of how things work.

That being said, I don't plan on purchasing much from them during the build up of my car. I might buy their ECU eventually, to get rid of rev limiter, and have better fuel maps for bigger injectors and the Z32 MAF.

I'll probably go with HKS for cams and gears. All the manufacturers seem to offer nearly identical cam profiles. Unless one uses significantly lesser quality billets, there really won't be much of a difference.

Sorry Jesse, but you put it backwards hehe. The 260 is degrees of duration and the 10/10.5/11/12 etc is the lift in millimeters (how much the valve is opened from seating position). A car would barely run with 10 degree duration don't you think?

I have always wondered about JWT. See, I will not be upgrading my ECU for awhile after my SR swap. Do people do that even if they have not modified their turbo, or is it usually a re-map to run a bigger turbo etc. I am not one who wants to have complicated piggy back computers and have to program them in my daily driver, so an ECU re-map seems like a good idea. If not Jim wolf, then who? Are there other good "send it in" ECU ROM tuners?

Apexi Power FC, and get it Dyno Tune, I am lucky to have a local Apexi Excel shop around. I forgot how much they charge, but it's around $120-$180 /hr for dyno tune. They told me aprox. 2-4 hours to tune it...

XS Engineering in Huntington Beach does the Power FC tune for $500. Thats what I will be doing, when I have enough money to drop on a Power FC.
