I have a complete stock SR SMIC and all the piping. Do I have to disable the stock recirculating valve on the intercooler?

Is a aftermaret BOV really neccessary for the stock setup? won't affect performance will it?

stock BOV will start leaking at or above 10psi on stock turbo. so yes, it usually is a good idea to get another BOV unless you want to modify your stock one.

Funny you said that because my first s13 held 14 psi easily on stock bypass valve.

Then the s13 I have now has what you're describing. I had an Apexi Twin Chamber on the first couple runs I did out at Fontana this year then just last week I went back out to Fontana with the stock bypass valve installed and I ran 4 mph slower than the usual but still doing the same times...odd.

Anyway I think it really depends on the condition of the bypass valve if it will hold more than 10 psi or not.

Interesting. Good point - the BOV's condition probably has a lot to do with it. Mine definitely leaked past 9psi (i could hear it + dyno checked out) as well as my friend's over ~11psi.

id block it off and get an aftermarket if you have plans to up boost, and if you plan to get a FMIC in the future

c'mon man, your trying to make this more difficult than it has to be. It doesn't take an engineer to cap something off........

I actually cap mine off with a bottle cap everytime I decide to install my Apexi twin chamber. It works and still looks clean. Function over form sometimes.

fwiw when I got my smic, the stock recirc leaked VERY badly. capping off the exit and blowing into the inlet of the intercooler you could plainly hear it leak. i wanted a greddy rs and nice hotpipe so i was already planning on disabling the stock bypass valve, but then it turned out i had to anyway. dont know what's in 'em but it wears out after 15 years.

Greddy RS is nice sounding... out of the box plug and play it seems to be set up perfectly for 7psi. no bogging problems between shifts either.

I just installed my Greddy RS Valve And i love i.But im having a hard time getting it to open at 7psi.Im getting some surge.I have the hard and soft bolt all the way on soft and still.Guess its time to raise the Boost! 9-10psi sould do it.

Make sure the BOV gets its own dedicated vacuum line... i ran mine to the fatter of the 3 lines on the tb. The blue hose they provided was a little small for that fitting (and my tastes) so i bought some the right size but then it was a scoche too big for the BOV. used a teeny hose clamp on the bov and everything works perfectly. If you turn up the boost and the BOV isnt seeing proper vacuum when the throttle plate suddenly closes, youre just going to get more compressor surge.
