I heard from a fellow z technician that when eliminating the airbox on the z32tt you have to make sure the new filter is at least 8 inches upstream of the maf sensor. I was wondering if this is nonsense or if its true???

Never heard that. In fact, most like the JWT Pop Charger put the cone right at the front of the MAF. I have heard, however, of cone filters causing non-turbulence issues with the MAF (makes the airflow too smooth, MAF can't sense it) but it's an easily fixable issue. Someone else pipe in and correct me if I'm wrong.

Never heard that.

JWT/Stillen/K&N POP charger with the aluminum venturi adapter will give you the most power of any intake.

BS, these things work by getting more int that the mas doesn't see, if you want to continue to run rich and not gain any power then 8" might help you achieve that

these cars use metered air, the cone air filter works by sneaking air in that the maf can't measure leaning otu the mixture and makign more power (not leaning enough to be a danger) when you move the filter further away from the mas it gives the air flow a chance to normalize giving the mas a chance to accurately meter the air coming in, it doesn't hurt anything it just defeats the purpose

I really don't remember the details (should've looked it up before posting) but I could swear some people have problems with their MAF after installing upgraded intakes. The fix was some sort of turbulence plate? Sorry for not knowing the specifics, I'll try to look this up.

Okay, I found it on Robo's page. Read the article under "Cone Air Filter Placement."

Wow I feel stupid. Okay, based on placement in relation to the splash guard, you can create too much turbulence and negative pressure around the MAF, which can cause malfunctions. Sorry again. Read the article, hopefully it will be more helpful than I. Good luck!
