Today the car would not go past 20mph, the acceleration wont go more than 2000 rpm. Something went wrong definitely during timing belt change. Just before the timing belt change, the car would accelerate so fast, that I was impressed. Please help ! Is it the , transmission, fuel injector? water pump?Should I take it to the same mechanic or to the dealer??This is a 94 J30 with 121k mileage. I was in mint condition. Changed the timing belt because it was due.

I'd ask the mechanic to make it right, then take him to court if he does not.

Sounds like your J is running in safe mode. I would check all electrical connections.

Problem solved ! I was checking to find what might go wrong and found a line that was hanging which is not supposed to be. I figured probably that is why the car behaves differently at idle and also it wont speed up after 20mph and 2000 rpm.

I went back to the mechanic and told him why this is not connected. He said this is the vacuum line and he had hard time to find where to connect it. Finally he could find the place and connected it. Problem solved, I guess. I have to check driving a few days.

Same problem showed up today. I thought it was over. But no. Took it to a different mechanic. He drove and said the timing belt is off probably. After few hours picked up the car. It runs great as good as before. I almost forgot how nice it was before. Mechanic said the timing belt was off by a tooth/thread
