Should I take my chances and buy?

I almost pulled the trigger last night but now I'm confused about the super slim or the regular ballasts. This is one of the last mods I want to do for the time being and now I'm apprehensive.

for starting a new HID topic

can you please explain the issues you think you might experience ???

typically when people run into issues with hids, they've:1) cheaped out and bought a lesser quality kit2) did not install it properly3) or more than likely did not install a relay kit with their hids which is causing the hids to flicker or run properly.

i just bought a kit from http://www.mobilehid.com as ive got a FEW friends running their kits with no issues.

yea pull the trgger..the possible annoyance of the auto feature/ on light on one off... some have been experiencing is of little meaning compared to the benefits..the lights are brighter and a gazillion times better than the stock halogens...i have the 5000k zentec slims with relays...thats the important key...realys...they balance out the power to the ballasts...most kits are sold with out them...so make sure you get them in addition!and please...do the fogs as well!...most of us drive with em on and it looks weird...fog hid's in pure white...and the foggies in stock halogen mellow yellow!

I think he is referring to the issue people are having with the Slims where if they leave their lights on "Auto", turn the car on at night, the passenger side doesn't fire. You have to turn the lights off then back on for them both to fire. Not a huge deal, but...

edit: Gry beat me to it

so has it been confirmed that it's just with the super slim ballast? i have 5000k xentec HIDs with the super slim ballast and i have this issue. people have said it doesn't matter for the fogs, that no one has had problems with HIDs in the fogs so far..... i'm thinking about buying a 2nd HID kit that's NOT the super slim and just use those for the headlights and the super slim for the fogs..... but i gotta make sure i can fit the fogs in the stillen fascia

you must not have read my post!.....i did a test...theres a power dip on start up in the pass low beam harness....doesnt effect halogens....but the hid ballasts dont like it....it reads it as a short....my relays seemed to have fixed the issue by regulating the juice it gets..

some of us installed relays, and we're still getting this problem.

Adding to what GryStrm said,

I got 1 set of 6K Xentec regular-sized ballasts for low beam and 1 set of 5K X-Light for fogs with relays and never have any problems whatsoever. Been working flawlessly since April of 2008.

No flickers, no misfires....Plus there's only $80 per set.

Hey guys, im getting HID fogs and i was wondering what degree K works best? I know the lower the temp the more light is given off..... however based on color what do you guys think would look best? Everyone keeps telling me to get yellow because they are the best for cutting fog and will look the best as well. I can't make up my mind because i think it will look more clean/classy with matching 5/6- or 8k (that white/blue color), and less "street" i guess with the yellow? any ideas?

If you have OEM hid for low beams, then go with 5k-6k for fogs.

I wouldn't pull the trigger. HIDs are well worth it. Everyone else has worked through their issues. I'd refer to other threads for a solution around the auto switch. The HIDs are so much more appealing at night, especially 6000K after market kits. I got the ultra slim ballasts with McCullochs. I commute through heavily wooded areas, and the HIDs are much more impressive and safe for me personally.

Don't let your car down!

I'm running a relay which gets power directly from the battery for both ballasts and only uses 1 of the OEM bulb harnesses (ie drivers side) so it knows when to turn on. No problems running in auto at all since the passenger side voltage dip is no longer a factor (oem passenger side connector is just wrapped up in electrical tape and tucked away). The HID's are definately well worth the money. I'm using 50w ballasts, so they're the regular size. I don't see the need for slim ballasts after i saw how much room you have to work with if you remove the bumper.

That's true. This is where I mounted the ballasts

Seems like people with the new Digital Xentec Slim ballasts are having problems, but the old regular-sized ballasts are working fine. I'd go with the old style if I were to buy again. I'll wait till they fix all the issues with slim ballasts.
