ok I put in brembo oem rotors and hawk HPS pads... haven't bled the brakes yet will do that next weekend... my question isI dind't clean off the oily protection covering the new rotors before I put them on and now the brakes aren't nearly as good as what they should be, I mean they have about the same stopping power as my old crappy pads (well a little better)

Right after the brake change they barely had any stopping pwoer at all, but as I drove it got better and better. But still they are not what they should be at. I've enver driven on Hawk HPS before but I'm pretty sure they are suppsoed ot be better than this. I'll keep driving it and see if it's get any better.

Is this because I did not clean off the rotors? Thanks.

I am going to do that when I bleed the brakes next weekend... in the mean time I hope it will get better as the protective coating on the rotorwears/burns off(?) for a lack of better term.

Right now the car is driveable and stops fine, but kinda like on worn down pads, they don't stop very well, but they stop.

oh man, your lucky you even stopped the first time.

when you get new pads or rotors, always spray them down [pad friction side and entire rotor] with brake cleaner.

when i do pads and rotors, i use an entire can of brake cleaner.

yeah. take it to an open stretch of road and do 60-5 [dont stop moving], drive a minute, 60-5, drive a minute, do 60-5 and you should be good.

for the minute in between braking, dont use the brakes if you dont have to.

do the stops at 85-95% of braking force. dont lock up the brakes and dont come to a full stop.

After you do those big stops, don't sit with your foot on the brake or put your parking brake on. All that heat can cause your new rotors to warp. Also, HPS shouldn't need much more than a couple mins of regular driving to get up to temp.

yea I have found the pads are usually better after just a bit of driving. ouch I think I've already held the brakes when stopped due to the road, but haven't really braked hard too much although there's smoke coming from the rotors after driving.

Yeah, you don't want to trap that heat if you don't have to especially if your brakes are smoking!
