Unless you have specific State laws that address this (and I doubt it because not all vehicles come with TPMS, it's just an option), you are not required to purchase these or keep them in working order - this system does not affect any critical systems such as ABS, traction control etc.. Many Rogue owners in cold winter areas such as where I live run with winter tires for half of the year, and rather than bothering with TPMS sensors they just ignore the warning light or place a small piece of tape over the light, as our moderator Philipa240SX does and traction control and ABS function just fine.
In my personal opionin, the TPMS is ok and "nice to have" provided all of your sensors are functioning properly and you aren't wanting to swap rims. But once you have a sensor go bad or want to add new rims, the $400 plus price tag to purchase 4 little sensors is absolutely ridiculous, if Nissan can't make this system affordable then I see no value in it. When my sensors start to fail, and they will fail, the batteries are only project to last 7 years I believe, I won't be replacing mine as they really don't give me much benefit and the price is outrageous.
