I had the dealer put in an after market remote start. Its clear from the manual that the remote start is intended for use with a regular Key, and not a push button start.
I know other people may have different after market remote starts, but I figured I would ask my question anyway.
I am able to remote start the car by pressing the button on the remote 3 times. I am then able to get in the car, but the car truly isnt in the full on position. The remote start says that depressing the brake will turn the engine off, but I need to press the brake to turn on the coupe. So a catch 22 ensues.
I end up turing off the engine by pressing brake, and then turning it back on by pressing the brake and the button at the same time.
Does anyone know how to get in the car and drive it once it has been started remotely without first turning off the engine ?
Thanks
Yes, it has to do with how your installer installed your alarm. Most likely, he hooked up the starter kill on your vehicle. For the 08 Altimas, G37's, G35's, it is recommended that they DO NOT hook up the starter kill when using the can-bus relay module that allows them to NOT have to leave the fob in the car.
When I get in my car, after I have engaged my remote start, I just press the brake and the car switches to the ON position. I can then drive from there!
So, if you want to be able to do that, you'll have to take it back and have them disconnect the starter kill.. Again, the most recent data from aftermarket remote start systems tells the installers NOT to reinstall the starter kill! Its the only way to get in and just press the brake and then drive. For a more technical answer, you'll have to call the alarm company and talk with a SENIOR person in the technical assistance department!
The only reason I know this is because it took the guys at my install spot 12 hours to do the install. It should only take about 5 hours, but in order to get the 2008 wiring info, they had to call and only after speaking with a SENIOR technial support guy did they find out that the wiring for the 2007 Altima Sedans and 2008 Altima coupes was different. Then they had to hunt for the corect wiring. And then it took an additional 4 hours before the installer spoke with another senior tech support guy and found out what I mentioned above regarding the recommendation to NOT connect the startter kill. If you want to keep your starter kill, its not a problem, but you won't be able to just get in and go. You'll have to hit the break (turn the car off) then turn the car back on with the brake and push button.
We played around with it while the starter kill was connected, and it turns out, if we initiated the remote start, then just pressed the push start button (w/o pressing the brake), the car would go to on, but the car's computer would get confused, wierd lights would flash in the speedo area, and its just didn't feel right. So, in the end, we just did what the factory suggested and disconnected the starter kill. I don't believe you have to do this with the factory remote start install using the original key fob, but again, aftermarket systems are different.
If anyone discovers a way to install an aftermarket remote start, with the can-bus module so that you
1. don't have to leave a key fob in the car2. can remote start, then get it and go and don't have to turn the car off then on again (with the starter kill engaged)... then please, by all means let us know. I'm just posting what I discovered after 12 hours of dealing with Viper, Directed Electronics, Auto page, and Audiovox!
