I was wondering on a 97 qx4 do you need a dash kit for a double din deck if it came stock with Bose system? I know you need a special wireing harness.

ive seen bose come in both double din and single din. mine was a double din and it looks very standard, no kit needed, just the trim that comes with the deck. i switched to single din, just needed to buy the lower pocket. and fits snug

Yea the deck in there is a big brick with cassette tape in it.. i was told at a audio store i needed a custom dash kit made out of fiberglass to run the double din and i don't see why when the deck is the same size? he was going on about something how the bose deck has angles in it and they'd have to make the kit. i see a few people have instaled double din decks no problem...

ya definitely you dont need no fiberglass. stereo shops can be funny sometimes (PS i'd stay away from that one that told you that stuff) i also had the brick with cassette deck, when i removed it, my pioneer single din slid right in and even bolted in to the stock screw holes. all i needed was a $20 lower pocket to take the place of the hole that will result from going to double din >> single din

So long story short I should be able to get a double din deck in no problem without a special kit just use the 1 it comes with?

It will mount fine but you'll have a gap around the deck. Easy solution is to just take a piece of 1/8"-1/4" Black ABC plastic and cut it to fit as a bezel. I mounted a sub control and antenna switch in mine. Here's a pic of my old deck with just the sub controller:
