I got my car on November 18 2009 and tomorrow is its "birthday" but I'm busy all tomorrow and wont have time to do this so I'm doing it a day early. When i got this car i had no experience with cars what so ever. The most I had ever done was an oil change with my dad. So anyone who thinks they cant do it by them selves. Save the money of going to a shop and give it a try. This is just going to be something that shows what all I have done to the car in a year and just kinda like a progress report thing. Its not done and still has a pretty long way to go. Thank you for reading.

ANYWAY my car is a 1990 base hatch i got it with a ka24e that had a bad knock. It came with jic coils and 3inch exhaust. I got it for 500 dollars with clean title and no rust at all.

We trailered it home for 2 hours and the whole way I was just thinking about all the big plans I had in mind for it. The guy I bought it from was a dirty trailer trash lair who didn't tell me any of what i needed to know and was the cause for 80% of the problems that I've run into on this car.
And its home. I didn't know that the horrible bumper sag was from a front end crash that he "forgot" to tell me about.
Image
The poor single cam that he never took care of. The oil was pretty much sludge as it came out. The coolant was dark brown and there were metal shavings that came out when draining the oil.

Just an inside pic

I got it to its temporary home

Anyway.. got that mess out of the way

I ended up selling the motor and transmission for 350

I'm not a fan of the 240 red after 20 years. It kinda fades to this gross orange. or mine did. And the fenders didn't match so i decided to primer it.
Also I painted the engine bay but I cant seem to find any pictures of that?

Anyway. I decided to go sr20 and I got mine of EABY! Yes I bought my engine off ebay. I got a blacktop sr20 for 1600 and free shipping from jdm engine dept which since then, Ive heard some pretty bad things about but I must of gotten lucky because i havent had any engine problems at all besides a clutch that was bad but that was kinda my fault..

Got it in with some trouble..

Got the front mount

And got it running! It had some bad exhaust leaks and the alt wasn't plugged in so it wouldn't run good or hit good boost but it was driving and that was the best feeling ever. I couldnt believe That I had put in a motor from a different car into this one and it actually worked. It just blew my mind lol. But then again... I was new into this world and had no idea how normal this was lol.
I just always liked this picture

Well the motor was in and I got it running good enough to drive. So next i focused on the terrible "Nismo" wheel i had in the car from the previous owner. It was broken and flimsy and i felt like it was a danger to my life. Someone on craigslist was selling a Silvia one for 50 bucks with a walbro 255 so i got it.

Well after some time of driving it like this I was playing tokyo drift in a parking lot and hoped a curb in front of everyone and damaged my already blown coils even more and every time i hit a bump there was a loud rocking noise from the front of my car so my friend gave me some stock struts to put on till i could get another set of coilovers. I'm glad he did but wow.. Going from pretty bad coils to horrible blown stock struts is quite a bad step down. Under hard acceleration and breaking and turning and if i went past 55 i got the worst wheel hop in back but they were free and I needed something so I made due. Oh and I got a chuki bumper and a set of really clean SE wheels. 150 for both.
new stance..

I live in Colorado and we have emissions here but they aren't to bad. However I failed twice not because of the illegal swap but because my CO was like 4 times what it was supposed to be. They have a free test to tell you what to fix and he said I never went into closed loop so I went down and got a new o2 thinking it would fix the problem but when I let it run for a while and tested the voltage at the pigtail of the new 02 i never got anything so i figured i got a bad one and returned it. I put the old one in after a cleaning mostly to plug the exhaust leak and plugged it back in and when it got up to operational temp i heard the idle drop and it ran smother... I wasn't sure if it was just me or if it really happened since that wouldn't make sense at all. But my temp tag was close to expired and so I got some denatured alcohol with the plan of putting it in the gas tank to pass emissions. But my clutch suddenly went from kinda slipping to full on undrivable. And After a little saving and research I got an act 6 puck stage 4 with stage 6 pressure plate good up to 575ft/lb... I put it in and wow.. Its like pressing the break. Its way to stiff for daily driving and although its been a great clutch and Ive had no issues with it besides it blowing the seal on my cmc. I do wish i would have gotten a more realistic clutch for my less then 200ft/lb motor.. I got it in still needing to do emissions and went through with no denatured alcohol in my tank. The guy kept stalling and burning out when pulling my car up lol. Anyway he had a little fun with my car before the test and ran it through the gears which kinda bothered me. But...It passed! legitly! I had an sr20 that was as legal as could be. I was stoked. It turns out that the guy has some k20 turbo civic that wouldn't pass and heating up the cat like he did fixed it for him and me. So thank you sir! ANNYWAY on to more pictures.
I got a overflow Because i kept dripping coolant everywhere with my ghetto set up.

I was getting tired of the whole primer thing since that's how it had been for about 8 months so i decided to try that roller pain job thing everyone on youtube does.
I went white.

Still high off the ground on blown stock struts but now white. It looked a lot better and was a lot funner to drive because i didn't feel like it was as much of a "project car" anymore and more of a legit 240. Kinda.
Maybe it was the fall colors. Or maybe it was my Honda friends but somehow I decided to paint my perfect condition SE's bronze..

I kinda regretted painting them but oh well. They came out pretty good at least. My birthday was in October and i got enough money from family to get coils! My girlfriends name is megan and after all the reading Ive done i decided on megan street coils. I know some people don't like them but Ive ridden in quite a few cars with coils in my day everything from Tein to powered by max to my s*** jics and quite a few drift cars with kts and yes. Megan isn't as good as kts but honestly for 800 dollars who cares? They are a huge improvement over stock and i don't plan on tracking my car everyday. Im really happy with my purchase.

Its going lower after winter. This is my only car and hitting a dip to fast already dropped my bumper a little. Ill fix it soon.

Well that's pretty much it. Thank you for sticking with me the whole time. (if you did lol) My next plans are fixing the bumper gap getting some sound deading in back and getting a new bmc. So pretty much just small boring stuff. I'm happy to say that a year ago my car was in alot worse condition. Its a far way from done like i said but its alot closer! Some of the pictures are a little out of order.. Oh well lol. :dblthumb:

Whats the story behind the 240 in the back?
Image

And good job on saving a would of been junked 240! Plans for the motor? Keep updating your suspension! You've got enough power to keep you busy so keep updating your suspension and maybe new wheels?

Thanks lol. The one in back was a pretty sick car. Ill try and find a picture of it finished. I do alot of swaps in that back barn and that was a rb25. It came out amazing after paint. Motor plans arent huge, Im going to look for 300-350hp and suspension is going to be the next major thing i do once the money starts lol. Wheels hopefully by mid summer at the latest.

Wow that hatch came out great. How hard was the RB25 swap because thats the kinda swap I'd be doing. But more like street side or gravel road swap haha.

You should have seen it in person. The gold flake with the gold wheels really made it amazing. The rb swap was alot harder then sr or ca but only because of the wiring. There are alot of guides for that though. It just takes a long time. Its pretty expensive too.
