I just got back from a week's vacation in Maine(I saw 3 or 4 240's there, but that's not why I started this thread). I got home about an hour ago, cleaned up and put stuff away, etc. Then I went to start my car.

The 240 was sitting out on my driveway for the week, in reverse, and I have to get my cousin from the airport later today, so I decided to make sure she started. VERY GOOD IDEA! I went outside and depressed the clutch, only to find that it wouldn't disengage, but it sunk to the floor anyway... not a good sign. I wrestled the car out of reverse into neutral and started it. She runs fine, I just can't disengage the clutch. I pushed her up my driveway some, and underneath the car I found a half dry puddle of somthing, the dry half had turned white.

So to clear everything up, not running for a week, clutch goes to ground, but doesn't disengage, and I have to pull the clutch back up... it sticks to the ground, and I have a half dry puddle of a mystery fluid, which has turned white and crysatlline(sp?).

Please please please please please please help me!

-Doug

Oh no!....You know I can't provide any help...but I've always wondered if leaving the car sitting in reverse would have some type of effect....If you ever see a car on the street with it's reverse lights on...this is a possibilty being that it happened to my Aunts car because she left in reverse when she parked..I dunno just a thought?

Could it be hydraulic clutch fluid? That would be my guess, that you sprung a leak or a seal went bad.... That is if 240s have hydraulic clutches (I must confess i don't know). The symptoms (except the fluid) are the same as when my bro's clutch cable broke on his 'teg.

if the pedal won't return on its own, i'd say clutch master cylinder. even dry they have an internal spring that pushes the piston back. where in this boring state are you? we're having a kc meet soon.

no clutch cable...it is prolly the clutch slave cylinder, one f the smarter guys on the board will correct me if i'm wrong, but it's one of the clutch hydraulic cylinders...you could have also had a bad leak in a hose...but that is def. hydraulic fluid under your car

You win the prize Radian! Yes, the 240SX does have a hydraulic clutch, and yep it sounds like this one has a leak. And no Atl_240sx, leaving the car in reverse had nothing to do with it. Doug, you may be able to get enough clutch just by refilling the fluid reservoir, but you will really need to figure out what's leaking and replace it soon. Also, I'm pretty sure you'll have to bleed the system once you've done that.

Have funEarl

I can almost guarantee that it is your slave cylinder. You are describing the exact symptoms that a slave cyl has (clutch to floor, hard to put in gear, clutch doesn't come back up)

They are only like $30 at a parts store...

After you change the slave or master cylinder, you will need to bleed the lines, which is very easy. Replacing either of these two parts is a quick job, but requires a couple people for bleeding.

Thanks guys. I talked to my friend and he said the same thing Raiden did. I'm gonna try to refill the fluid and get it to a mechanic to see if it's a job I can handle.

Thanks for all the help!

BTW kansas240, I'm in Overland Park.

Yeah, I'll try to make it to the meet. It all depends on my car though... grrrrrrrrrr.
