After 6 months the EX has to go, help me decide on it's replacement

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

Well after 6 months of ownership, I have finally decided to trade in the EX. The main reason is the lack of rear passenger space. I went to the dealership this morning and was looking at the M and the dealer gave me a fully loaded 2008 M45X to take home for the night. It's truely a wonderful vehicle, but I am not 100% sold on it.

At this point I will either get the 2008 M45X (approx $47k) or the 2009 FX35 (approx $45). The M is a dealer demo which has just under 6,000 miles, but the 4 year warranty begins when I sign the papers and drive the car off the lot. The FX is a brand new vehicle.

Right now I can't decide between both and would appreciate any input as I try to make up my mind.

$2000 is very generous.

I vote for FX, I love the sound from the exhaust.

I would go for the FX. I like the looks and the interior room. If it was possible, I would trade in the EX and get the FX, but I am leasing th EX and don't think thats possible.

We just traded in the EX for an 09 FX35. We were considering the M rwd as well but went with the FX instead. My wife like the FX better I perferred the M

The ride on the M is alot smoother. The new 7spd transmission in the FX is not as responsive as the older 5spd. Passing on the highway is not a quick. You get a little better gas mileage because the transmission is usually in a higher gear, keeping the rpms down.

The interior in the FX is totally different. I love the seats, they are comfortable and supportive. The exterior takes some getting used to but I like it.

Test drive the FX and you notice the differences immediately.

Depending on what you need out of a car. If you want an suv type thing the FX cannot be beat.

The M is a great car and if I were going to get something new it would be next years M. If you only keep cars for a few months that I would get something and check into that when it comes out. The M45x is a rocket and gets decent fuel econ (both actually have the 7-speed) and has impressive performance.

IMHO either would be a great choice, you have to find what suits you best, the FX and it's increased seating position and 09 improvements make it a very strong contender. The display screen is huge and easy to see, if you wait until the next model year comes out all the advanced options should make their way over to the FX35. The new FX feel so much more solid than earlier models, but the M has an impressive road presence and it is an all around great car.

No matter what you decide on I have a feeling you will be satisfied. Why are you dumping the EX?

Final update; I dropped off the M at the dealership during lunch yesterday and returned to work with a Black on Black FX35 as my tester. Well I loved the car so much that I decided to try to work out a deal on it.

Final figures;

My trade in of the EX35 with 7,750 miles, Nav, Prem, Tech Lux style, Roofrails and crossbars (Both from that dealership in Oct 08 for $35,200) was $33,000.* The best that I could get for the trade in at another Infiniti dealership was $30,000.

The brand new FX35 Black on Black with Nav, Tech, Prem, Roofrails and Crossbars as well as Cargo Area organizer was $44,700 + Tax on $11,700 (dif of trade in amount and new car puchase) + $99 doc fee + 5 years of maintenance $1,400. The dealer also threw in some all season mats.

I love this car!!

Jim Coleman in Bethesda, the manager there is Brian Harigan (sp), tell them that Wesley referred you.
