afm emissions question need help asap!!!! please help

hey i was wondering if i should close it more or open it more?.... only reason cuz if i close it more isn't that making it run richer? so if i open it more then its less gas or am i wrong and if you aren't sure dont tell me i gotta know before i get my car smogged today at 1:40 p.t. thanks ahead of time. it for my 92 gti but as soon as i smog it i can get looking for a 240 or a 510 cuz i can sell it ) please please please help if you are sure your right!!! thanks
