I don't have an all-out build - just 12 PSI on a stock engine with an SR turbo. What's a good oil to use? I'm currently using Mystik Super Heavy Duty semi synthetic diesel oil 15w50. It's actually a litle too thick with the oil cooler I run. I have about 80 PSI on the highway, though better that than too little pressure. I bought it because it was cheap for a semisynthetic and said it was good for turbos.

Anyone have experience with Royal Purple? It's not cheap but also not too bad if you buy it in bulk. I've seen 12 quarts for $90. I just don't want to buy all that oil just find out I don't like it.

Anyways, I'd love to hear any experience you guys have had.

Thanks

This is a good thread about oil that I think you missed.

But if you just want to get to the point, I use 0w40 Mobil 1. I had used 10w30 royal purple with an oil cooler and got 100 psi cold starts and about 80 on the highway as well. Also, as a side note, my bearings shat themselves (not saying that's because of the oil, but I dunno...)

I run 10W30 Mobil one in everything, but the RX7 because it injects oil into the combustion chamber and synthetic doesn't readily burn. For that I run 10W30 Castrol GTX.

Any relatively modern, off-the-shelf brand name oil with the FSM-prescribed viscosity will do, 10w-40, 15w-40, etc. Specific brands and specific viscosities won't make or break an engine.

I ran 0w50 Eneos for a short time. My lifters were considerably noiser. Didn't like it, wouldn't run a 0w again.

0w50 is way too wide of a viscocity range. Realistically, I could run straight 30 weight as the temperatures here don't change much throughout the seasons. It goes from warm to nice back to warm then to are you ****in kidding me?
