Hello everyone,
Has anyone ever purchased a AFe drop in filter for their Infiniti m37 or q70 with the v6 3.7L?

I just recently took a gamble and purchased one on AFE’s website after talking to one of their Customer service representatives. The rep told me that this filter ( 31-10271-MA) would have no issue fitting in our housing but upon opening it.. the filter definitely would not fit unless I wanted to bend the filter into a u-shape and let unfiltered air flow in. I will be returning or exchanging it unfortunately.

I have no idea why a drop-in is so difficult to find for this vehicle but if I cannot find an aftermarket one that is dry I will probably just stick with the oem drop-in or try my luck at fabricating and go short ram intake (r2c).

Thanks guys.

I dunno, after K&N and it's oils killed the MAF on my 99 Maxima (and the MAF of many other Maxima owners), I stopped using anything but OEM or the most expensive/highest rater filter at the parts store (in my case, Purolator).

IMO I change my filters every 15kmi so even if the filter isn't the best filtering, I change it often enough that it doesn't matter if I got one that was super duper awesome and lasted 30kmi.

Ilya,
I understand where you are coming from and after looking back I agree. While it would be nice to have a reusable air filter, the oem ones or any good quality third-party filter would do the same.
I guess the mod bug has hit already lol. I should just take the money for the filters and invest in some ceramic tint instead :naughty:
I am thinking 15% or 35% Llumar Ctx all around.

Thanks for the reply!

I am using the R2C SRI for a G37 in mine. I have 2 sets of cone filters - I just swap out the filters and wash/use compressed air to clean out the dirty set and then let 'em air dry.
I don't think the engine bay is all that different in the Q70 - shouldn't have to fab up too much.

See: top of page 4 on what-did-you-do-to-your-m37-m56-q70-tod ... 85-90.html

The only thing I modded, was swapped out white silicon hose at the throttle bodies instead of the R2C branded black ones and I don't have the filter shields bolted to the side brackets. They are on tight enough that nothing is moving around in the engine bay so I just removed them.

Craig,
Thanks for the reply. I believe the engine bay for the 14 q70 is the exact same as the 2011-3013 m37’s. The setup that you have is very nice and I may end up going this route in the future if I get bored. I probably won’t be looking at any extreme gains but I care a lot about reliability and good filtration. Does the R2C intake filter air pretty well in your opinion?

Thanks,
Khai

I think it does - I don't have any official way to test that claim.

If you go to their website: http://www.r2cperformance.com/technolog ... ology.aspx
their engineers have done a lot of work for the military and lots for racing applications where conditions might be more critical and harsher with extremely high standards for filtering without significantly impacting air flow
