what do you think would be the best way to make a 240 more aerodynamic. I was thinking sealing off the undercarriage of the car. what do you think?

if you do that make sure you get enough air moving through your cooling system, and hope your cabin doesn't turn into an oven

how would sealing off the undercarriage do any off that. it would just make it so air flows under the car with no disturbances. making a plate that you put under the car is only going to help things. most of the drag on you car comes from the undercarriage.

It has the potential to do that if you screw up and seal the engine bay air off from travelling out under the car.

no you just have to direct the air back out the hood.

The hood has a rubber seal on the back side. The point is if you screw up and seal off the engine bay, you're going to be inhibiting the flow of air through the bay, which is definitely a bad thing. The underbody stuff has to be low enough to allow engine air to flow above it.

you have to make a channel that takes the air out a hood vent. that is what i ment by making the air go back out the hood.

I understand what you mean 240crazy31, that you intend to modify the hood to allow air to exit. However, I hope you have aerodynamics and fluid flow textbooks handy, plus some good modeling software.

So whats the best way to take care of the problem with the Q's made after 93, they have that big opening at the front. Why did they change that part of the body when befor it was more aro dynamic.

It depends, do you want aerodynamic as in very little drag or do you want downforce. Sealing off the bottom is a very good start and for venting the hood, I'd say you're better off having it vent out behind the front wheels. If you put a spoiler on your car and you vent out your hood, all you're doing is helping the airflow seperate from the body sooner. Also, if you might want to put something at the rear of the roof to help keep flow attached. Anywhere oyu have an angle greated than about 10-15 degrees the air is going to stop following the body. The coupe has a sharp fall off for sure. The most important part of stopping drag is going to be how the air rolls off your rear end.
