I'm kinda new to this, just purchase my aem ems and it came with a map and iat sensor, and was just wondering where is the best location to install the map and iat sensor at. I have a Freddy manifold, btw.

Take the MAP pressure from the intake manifold "surge tank".

Take the air temp in the cold piping ahead of the throttle body.

Where is the surge tank located on the manifold? Plus, do you mean to install the air temp on the intercooler pipe by the throttle body? I was thinking to tap the bottom of the intAke manifold and just install both of those sensor underneath, but don't really want to take off the manifold if there is another easy location that can be mounted on

The surge tank refers to the body of the intake manifold. The Freddy IM should have several drilled/tapped holes on the side for you to thread in barbed x NPT fittings to it and extend a boost line to the MAP sensor port.

I drilled and tapped my intercooler piping, but it would be best if you welded a bung onto it and then threaded into that. There's more meat that way, and it is less likely to strip out or leak. I didn't have access to a welder and I was in a pinch so I made due with what I had. I would not drill and tap the manifold if you don't have to. Talk about a PITA location to troubleshoot for a boost leak...

proper place to install an aem box.

To install the sensors then yes IAT should go in the cold pipe of the charge piping to help prevent and suppress heat soak, map can be connected remotely but the hose should be kept very short to prevent pressure pulsations and surges.
i would put the map on the vac block under the manifold but it may be tapped for bspt, however the knock off stuff typically uses npt so it might thread right in.

How could you possibly hate on AEM? What do you have against an EMS? Not trying to start a debate, I'm just curious. Maybe you know something I don't, and what would you suggest instead of the 6620 AEM?

the software blows, its trigger capabilities questionable, and generally they're not that great.

they tune ok assuming you can figure out what things are and where but they're not the most robust units...for the money better can be had.
just finished tuning a car with a vipec and its a pretty nice little box, its software is a little funky but when you want it to do something, it does it.

I had the choice between the AEM and other EMS's, and after debating Haltech Platinum Pro P&P seemed like the best decision. I dont have one regret. Software is very user friendly, tons of features, and their tech support is awesome! The only complaint is that they should have installed a 3 bar internal map sensor instead of a 2.5

Wish I had the cash for the Haltech :( I'm stuck with my AEM S2. I feel like a blind man in a strip club with this thing.
