The AEM is a cool air intake, the cone filter sits down near your wheel well so if you drive in an area with a lot of rain there is the possibility of water kicking up from a puddle or just the road and getting into the engine.

Buy this...

...and you SHOULD be all good.

*EDIT* I THINK the AEM is cool air? Could be wrong there...

Well i assume you are talking about a Coupe (08,09,10).

The AEM is a SRI (short ram intake). A CAI (Cold air intake) could possibly suck in water. The CAI's cone filter goes into the wheel well or somewhere outside of the engine bay.

Nissan has designed the engine bay very well, and water/debris does not get into the engine bay. With SRI you will not get any water into your intake.

Yeah I second guessed and edited original post. Realized I had never actually seen a pic of it. The item descripts on all sites do say it fits in the wheel well though. Dang marketing slang...

IM89, you dont need that watershield.

I know where you live, the AEM is fine by itself, you wont have any issues.

Here is a pic of what the AEM intake looks like installed in an 08 coupe 3.5. (Taken by my BB)

Many people refer to this as a "cold-air box" (which I find to be a bit on the dumb side, but it's the closest to a "cold-air intake" that the v6 coupe will ever get, as there's nowhere to route piping for a true CAI setup (at least nowhere practical for a bolt on application... I'm sure you could rig something up if you really really wanted to... heh).
