just hooked up the 1601 to my s14 with sr20det redtop and i can only get the ecu to connect WHILE the key is in the cranking postion. i can make some adjustments while working offline, then hit the "send new caalibration" icon and turn the key to the crank position while leaving my foot off the clutch. it will remain connected while i hold the key but the minute i let it go and it goes to the "on" position it says "ecu offline".anyone else experiance this or have an idea what it could be?

thanks for helping this noob btw

well anyone know what pin gets power when you put the key in the on position and its coordinating ground?

maybe that pin isnt getting ground and the stock ecu will still work but aem wont ive heard the stock SR ecu is not very picky

Whats up bro I knw exactly what your problem is I had the same problem With my AEM EMS In my 240sx with my ca18det any ways the problem is that your aem box needs another ground which is different from your stock ecu. The way i solved this problem was to run a switch from the wire on the aem that need the ground right next to my seat and have the other side grounded to the chassis itself Im pretty sure its gona be a black wire just use a multimeter too see which ones have a ground and use the Aem MANUAL that has all the pin outs too determine which wires are supposed to be ground to double check. and which ever one has an open circuit wire in a switch directly too ground and this will fix your problem .

well i was switching between AEM and stock ECU checking voltage and i found that pin 47(Power Supply for ECM +12 volt switched) had 1.5volts on the AEM and 12 volts on stock ECU it was the same case for pin 38(Power Supply for ECM +12 volt switched)

anyone have any ideas?

those voltages were checked on the ems with the key in the start position?????? if not that would be why you are reading those voltages ... Cuz its not being fully powered up as the factory ecu is.

Yea ive been on the aem forums their not all that. So u did have the aem in and workin and it just started with this problem or what led up to this situation it sounds exactly the same as the problem that I had I almost sure its a grounding problem.

no i just had it for a while and only tried it once when i first got it i figured i was doing something wrong and id figure it out later when i actually needed to use it.

dont see how its a grounding problem when it gets voltage just way too low @ 1.5 volts when it so posed to be 12v

i wouldnt know what to ground i even saw that my electronic boost controller thats spliced into the engine harness does not turn on when i have the AEM on but it does when i have stock ECU on. i tried grounding the ground wire the boost controller uses on the harness but it didnt do anything and again it was getting 1.5 volts
