I'm settled now that I won't be short cutting on tuning...I saved up enough money to buy the EMS but before I make a purchase I was hoping to get some feedback.

Also one thing that is confusing to me is that there are 2 models basically... with and without the UEGO. Is it basically an EMS with a UEGO? Does it come with the gauge etc???

The Non-UEGO version is about $250 cheaper and buying a UEGO is about $200 so I thought I might buy them seperately unless there is a seperate benefit I am not aware of.__________________________New question:Does it really matter if I buy an OBD1 EMS for my 96?

If you KNOW the answer that would be great. I was 'thinking' it wouldn't matter because the whole tune would be custom and I could simply 'remove the OBD2 sensors off the car???

Thanks in advance

I'm running the aem ems and I think it was worth every penny. No more nosense like a maf that gets confused when you do a hard blow off and then let off the gas and killing the engine. Also all the extra connections are great. I switched to electric fans and just changed in the aem what temp the electric stock fan relay to turn on. Making the wiring job a snap. Plus I used the extra outputs to wire up ls1 coils using the thread on ka-t.org getting rid of the distributor. As for the uego buy one separate its cheaper and comes with a gauge. The one built in you have to either buy a universal aem gauge or use a laptop to monitor a/f. Make sure though when you ground it. You use the same ground as the aem. I used the radio ground first because of the convience and it made the signal off by 2 points on the a/f on the gauge and between the aem datalogging. Which you can see how this was a problem. After moving the ground to the same ground as the aem they are sync'd up. Also make sure you use the cas wheel from aem becuase the stock wheel is not acurate enough for the aem and makes it hard to find the right settings to get it to start. Look at the nissan forums on aem's website to see what i'm talking about. Its what most people have a problem with and then sell it online for cheap. If you have any questions about it feel free to ask. Also the new software for programming explains every option to you now which makes it easier to program. IE you don't have to be an expert at tuning to change small options anymore. Aem or not don't skimp on tuning and for God sake don't use a safc or an emanage unless you don't want to make more than 300 whp. Which as everyone here will confirm hp is addictive and you will jones for more.

Great post... just hard to read (use paragraphs!) hehehe

Seriously though, thanks for the input!

I was going to cheap out on tuning but decided I wanted to maximize power at every level. Even if I'm just running NA till next 'season' I at least want to get the most out of this setup too.

I will definitely be reading up more but for the record I am sold on this idea. I found one vendor who will sell it to me for $1200...Anyone else want to top that?

Also I will definitely upgrade the ignition. I'll have to check on that site you mentioned. I am not a fan of distributors... I see them as the carb of ignition systems! As little old for my taste now.

I think it depends on the tuner you are using and what you are using the car for.

Personally, I would get the UEGO so the wideband can be used by the EMS directly, and everything can be datalogged together at the same time in one place.

I thought that a AEM Uego was directly compatable with the EMS though. I 'had it in my mind' that maybe it just plugged in somewhere... ehhh I have no idea.

And it very well might, but in my opinion if the AEM EMS can do the wideband stuff automatically with it built in - even if you have to buy a separate gauge - that's one less thing to wire or have break...

FYI They are interchangable. Will throw codes but nothing that will damage the engine or affect performance.

Also can be coded out.

The Aem with uego is the way to go if you want the ems to control af's using a wideband. Otherwise, you will have to buy a separate uego and wire it in to the ems.If you chose the Aem uego gauge and wire the output in to the ems, it's cheaper and it will work but the uego controller built in to the gauge isn't anywhere near as good as the controller built into the ems, hence the cheaper price. You therefore can choose another uego controller such as the Aem uego single channel controller, Innovate, or the plx devices which also make good controllers but don't come with a gauge and will still need to be wired in to the ems.

Well I got a killer deal on an EMS without a Uego... SO I'm going to buy the sensor and wire it in because I do have an AEM serial gauge which can display still.

Anyone have a suggestion for a good gauge POD?
