ok, having problems with the ems.

car is a 97 ka currently n/a with v2 cams, intake/exhaust, spec 3+ & fidanza flywheel.

i loaded up the base tune that comes with the ems software(it has 2 maps there, 1 for mafs, 1 for map which obd2 cars come stock with), the problem is the car will not start by itself unless you give it some gas, and if you unplug the mafs(which is disabled on the ems software), the engine wont start at all, not even with givin it some gas.

anybody have a base tune that works better, and also, think the ems is somehow messed up?(it was sent back to aem for a checkup and they say the box is fine).

we did do a auto>manual swap in between installing the ems, so could it be that some of the wires are in wrong places?

Your car doesn't have a MAP sensor...It has a MAF.

OBDII doesn't have anything to do with that...

erm, it does have a map sensor, and a mafs sensor, its got a 1bar map sensor which the ems can read fine and drive with it, it came in 96-98 240's.

A stock KA has a MAP sensor? Really?

If you have a MAP sensor, I'm going to assume you installed it yourself and checked all your wiring?

Sounds to me like your fuel map isn't giving it any idle signal and your IACV is stuck closed and/or not being told to open at all. Check your MAF and tune settings...

a bone stock to the filter 96-98 240sx has a map sensor(look in fsm), it also has a maf sensor.it is a 1bar map sensor, tho i believe the stock ecu doesn't use it that much.

i don't know how the ems uses the iacv, is the iacv a stepper motor?(doubt), or what kind is it?(the aem pro software is somewhat universal and doesn't specifically talk about the iacv)

it seems the ems has a problem with syncing from when it cranks to where it can idle(crank exit), we just can't figure out why.

also were gonna go ahead & install the 3.5bar map sensor and see what that does.

I didn't know any KA came with a MAP sensor. News to me.

I don't really have any information to offer. I'm just puzzled...

It has one but it was simply to monitor the evap emissions control system, and to cause obd2 users headaches. I dont think it does anything for fuel, air, or timing.

yeah i think thats what it is for, as it only came in obd2 ka's.

tho the ems reads it fine, seems to get a good signal from it.

ok, we tried installing the 3.5bar map, we couldn't really run it as the base tune that comes with the ems is for stock map.(it would go from really rich to lean and would die while tryin to idle), then it started raining so we couldn't really tune it.

while we were doing that, the map sensor also has a baro solenoid in between the vacuum line for the map sensor, what am guessing is that the ems cannot run that solenoid(the ems has a baro sensor built in), so that also could have not allowed us to run the 3.5bar map sensor.
