Are there any reasons not to put a CAI on a 4 speed auto Versa?

Thanks.

Is this a trick question? Nothing will happen to your baby if you put a intake on.

Let me rephrase the question. Does CAI works better with 6 speed? CVT? or 4 speed? Does it matter? Anyone have a CAI on a 4 speed?

Thanks

This is an oddly phrased question, with an equally odd answer. I will do my best to answer it as clearly as possible.

Automatic transmissions are more complex devices than manual transmissions. As such, if you were to take the same amount of power and put them through both type of transmissions, a larger percentage of that original power would come through the manual than the automatic.

Let's say a car's engine puts out 100 HP at the crank. Let's say take two identical cars, with the same engine, but put a manual in one and an automatic in the other.

If you were then to run the car on a dyno, you would expect to find around 85-90 HP at the wheels from the manual, and 75-85 HP at the wheels from the automatic. Both engines are putting out the same amount of power, but the automatic isn't able to get as much to the ground because it is less efficient with the power.

Now let's say you put on (this is an extreme example, but it helps show the numbers) a turbocharger and it gives you 50 HP extra at the crank. So each engine is at 150 HP at the crank. Now say you dyno test them again, and the manual shows up somewhere between 128-135 HP at the wheels and the automatic ends up at 103-128 HP.

Again, the engines are pushing out the same amount of power, but not the same amount is getting to the wheels because of the difference in efficiency.

There's nothing wrong with putting a CAI or other mods on your automatic. Just remember to expect that a 6-speed with the exact same mods will still be pumping more power to its wheels.

The CAI will produce more power using the 6 Speed manual and CVT then on the Automatic transmission... but if you have the automatic and want to add more power you might think of a Level Ten torque converter typically you lose 20-30% in the automatic transmission traveling from the converter to the wheels.. its a little costly though or you could save and turbo the V...

But back on subject you will have some gains mpg, torque and bhp under optimum conditions.. Hope that helps you..

This statement, sadly, is a good chunk of why the manual transmission has fallen out of favor in America.

I blame drivers.
