I am sorry that this update is taking so long. I have a full time job saving up for the swap, so the work gets done as income is made.

I am having Wrench-Pro Garage custom drop a VH45DE 4.5L V8 from a 1994 Infinity Q45 with VVT, into my 1986 Toyota Corolla GTS. I will post up some pix.

Image

Everything is going to be custom, the setup so far:

1994 VH45DE with VVT 4.5L V8, 1990 300ZX Transmission (5speed), Had to order an adapter plate for the transmission to mount to the Engine, Adapter could be found at Mazworx.com , they are Located in FL.
Engine with complete uncut harness and sensors and the 1994 Q45 Gauge Cluster as well as the stock ECU for now.

Fitting and measurements:
the VH45DE is 27 inches in HT with the Oil pan and 23 Inches in HT w/o the oil pan.
It is also 29 Inches wide from exhaust manifold to exhaust manifold.

Image

Image

Image

Image

the AE86 Engine bay is 22.5 inches in HT from the oil pan to the strut bar.
it is 33.25 inches wide from strut tower to strut tower.
And is also 29 inches long from the radiator support frame to the firewall.

Image

In order to get the new transplant to fit properly they had to Plasma cut the old engine mount welds off the crossmember, and to allow the new engine to sit a little lower and not protrude past the hood they custom applied a 1 inch adapter plate between the crossmember and the chassis.

Image

Next the Radiator support frame had to be cut to allow the front of the engine to mount comfortably.

Image

the Battery will be rerouted to the trunk to replace the spare tire rack.
the dash was stripped to pull out the full harness and ecu without cutting (because cutting the harnesses is what thieves do).

Image

Updates so far, I have been slacking on the updates because I have been busy.

Image

1992 Q45 Dash harness cost me $200.00 and all I really needed was the pig tails from behind the cluster.

Image

VH45 Alternator mounting Bracket, will have to be modified for fittment.

Image

VH45 Alternator is HUGE.

This is how much the VH45 sits above the hood.

Image

Level to ensure that the Motor is sitting properly before they measurements are taken to fabricate the mounts.

Image

This is what the VH45 looks like seated in the engine bay.

Image

This is where they will fabricate a mount for the transmission.

Image

The firewall and center console was cut to fit the transmission. The shifter will sit back further, so they are gonna fabricate the shift linkage to match the stock shift boot.

Image

Image

When they are done, they are going to fabricate the firewall and weld it shut.

Image

Transmission still needs the VG30 flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, and throw out bearing.

thanks for taking your time to read.

next what they will do is cut the firewall and push it back 4 inches to allow fitment of the transmission and the custom exhaust manifolds to 4 inch pipe.

I will keep this post updated with new pix as I take them and find time to upload it while I scrap the couch for change to fund the swap.

thanks for reading!

A few more shots of the progress.

closer look at the new fabricated tunnel, notice the block notch cut out on the bottom left to allow room for the VH45 Starter. CORRECTION: The custom headers were modified because I opted to use the VG30 Manual transmission Starter, so the notch had to be cut and the right side header had to be adjusted.

after pressure washing and air blast dried, the Valve covers were removed for stripping and painting. P.S. Aircraft paint remover DOES NOT work with Infinity engine paints, I should have sandblasted them, but now I'm sanding them by hand.. sighhh.

After the black wrinkle paint in the engine bay and interior, the car is getting put back together. We should be having a FIRST start up this upcoming week, I'll make sure to get a video of that.
If the car runs properly then the 6 point roll cage will be custom fabricated followed by a fresh paint job to match the valve covers that I just finished painting in my living room last night.

Speaking of Valve Covers:
Image
here it is HAND sanded because I thought the Aircraft Paint Remover would work. (like they do on Hondas)

Valve cover with 1 coat of heat treated engine primer.

2 Coats of heat treated engine paint

Can't walk into my living room without getting high now.. had to flip the couch seats upside down, I should sell them to make space and funds for the swap ><.

as of current I have been looking in to a Supercharger setup, or even a reliable ITB/Cams setup.

I will keep you all updated.

here are some new pics from the shop;
Image
Image
they rerouted the stock engine harness, and extending harnesses to the lights and other functions to hide them as well as make them look more presentable.
Image
Image

Pretty much 3-4 coats of black wrinkle paint in the engine bay, but we are having a bit of lag because the paint requires an extreme heat source, tried using heat lamps.. doesn't work, heat guns do work, but it is VERY time consuming to do after each coat, I think 5 coats is the target number of coats here.

thanks.

The motor is getting the exhaust manifold gaskets replaced, and getting dropped into the car tonight,
the engine harness will be hooked up tonight, and possibly the dash harness as well.
it looks like a first start up will be in the near future.

stay tuned.

I just talked to the techs, they are going to fabricate a bleeder that sits up a lot higher than the radiator to bleed out bubbles.
That should take care of it some overheating issues. I guess I should invest in water/oil temp gauges too.. or maybe this will work;

I was told that the tach is probably not going to work properly with the readout from the VH ecu, even with a converter box wont read proper signal. Going to have to fork out and get a Stack Clubman.
I'm going to have the tech's try a few things before I search my couch for change.

In other news, guess what I got in the mail ??

Image

I'm sooo excited, but first I need to get my car running with stock settings.

Encountered a few issues with the starter and the flywheel, after consulting via e-mail with a friend in AU I was schooled about what the problem was.
I have the VG30 TT transmission, NA clutch and flywheel.
So it seems the TT transmission has a larger bellhousing, and NA flywheel teeth are not as wide as TT teeth.
You can use a TT transmission with a TT flywheel, or use a NA transmission with both flywheels doing slight shimmings to the starter.. or order a plate from http://www.Mazworx.com for that specific application.
it's a weekend, and it was late so no time and more importantly money for that. Since I chose to go with a TT transmission and NA clutch/flywheel to make it easier on my left foot we will have to improvise.

Fix? well we tried this:
Image
cutting out a plate about 1/4 in.
Image
Image
that should have seated the starter enough to let the teeth grab and turn the engine over.
Image
Image
started mounted to bellhousing with plate.

Well that failed, all it did was grind, it seems that the plate was too thick, what was the solution?

we simply removed the plate and replaced it with simple bolt washers, LOL. worked like a charm,
hooked up power to the starter and watched it crank the engine over.. sigghh, so much for trial and error.

Now that the starter issue is over with, we are going to take some overheating precautions by heat wrapping the headers.
Image
Image
Once the engine goes back into the engine bay it will be bolted up, the radiator support will be welded back on, and the engine will not be coming back out, (hopefully not)

Next up!!! the engine harness will be fitted, stock ecu plugged in, add oil and fluids, and drool over a first start up!

my new Driver seat, I use it to play Gran Turismo 5 in my living room for now,
but it's going to replace my Bride Zeta II in the driver seat, and the bride seat will be put in as a passenger seat,
I originally wanted to have only a driver seat and a coffee table for a passenger seat... since I don't drink coffee I figure I'd let a girl sit there;

Image

an NO I will not race you in Gran Turismo, because I suck at it.

off topic, but fun;

My 26 inch Captain America Shield shaped from metal is also getting custom work at http://www.Wrench-Pro.com
They are custom cutting a star shaped dome and welding it to the center, and are going to follow up with
candy red and blue stripe paint finishes. I am also requesting 2 coats of clear coat to have it wet sanded and buffed to ultimate comic book whore obsession!!

Today we did the final drop in of the VH45DE into my AE86,
A few more pix, and I have a video link for you all as well.
I am excited because we are making some progress here.

Image
I got 2 Airfuel ratio gauges and have a couple sensors on the way, one for each side of the "V" lol.

Image
The Z32 shifter would have sat back too far, and the gears would have been as if the car was RHD, so they made a few adjustments.

Image
Started to remove the oil pan to make some changes to it.

Image
There was an oil sump here, I'm sure it allowed the VH45DE to retain more oil to keep it cool, but I have no space for it, besides I will have an Oil Cooler put on soon.

Image
Shape was designed

Image
Image
Shape was cut out

Image
and, welded shut

Image
Image
proceeded to conducting a leak test, and decided to double up on the weld beads because the inside of the pan could not be reached or welded because of a plate like obstacle.

Image
I identified this issue, they are going to fabricate a plate to block large debris and rocks from entering the flywheel and starter.

OK, so now the fun part, pix of the fitment after the Final Drop in
Image
The VH45 is just teasing the AE86....

Image
That's what is looks like, looks a bit angry

Image
Right side clearance

Image
Left side clearance

Image
Top Right clearance

Image
Top Left clearance

Image
Firewall clearance

Image
Radiator support clearance

As you can see, there is not much clearance, I also have a video that I am currently uploading to www.youtube.com/chharith109 you can see it there, I will post a link to it in the next post soon.
Now that the VH45 is seated permanently the engine harness will be put in, fuel lines, bolts, brackets, tubes, and things of that sort will be attached. The new 255L fuel pump will be installed as well. and I'm thinking a 94 Q45 Fuel filter will do just fine.
Next up is the Dash harness that I got off a 92' Q45, techs will strip what they need from it, rewire and run it accordingly and trash the remains, I am also installing a stock 94' Q45 cluster. ECU will remain stock... (for now)

A first start is getting closer,

thanks for reading, and stay tuned...

I have just recently returned from some much needed time off and flew around visiting family, well now that I am back in CA, lets do some work!

Image
The shift assembly is complete, but it looks like I will not be able to use the 300zx short shifter that I bought.

Image
Harness still looks like a mess, and new relays were put in.

Image
The ECU was relocated from the floor board up underneath the dash on the passenger side.

Image
The Thermostat coolant outlet was cut, and silicone hoses were put in its place, also a reservoir tank and oil catch can will be installed on the left bay.
The coolant bleeder will sit up a bit higher than the 4row radiator.

and in other news!
Image
My Captain America Shield is almost complete, the star needs to be welded on the center, then a clean up before the final clear coat can be sprayed, followed by a wet sand and buff!

Next I will be posting a link to the First Start up Video.

Congrats man, that thing will be a beast. I loved the VH in my S13.

Couple of things I would say

1.) YOU SPRAY PAINTED IN YOUR LIVING ROOM!!!! Are you out of your mind?

2.) If you haven't already you need to replace the knock sensors and knock sensor harness or the ECU will pull all the fun power out.

3.) That Shield is BA, my brother would flip for it, mind letting us know where you got it.

4.) The under plenum hoses need to be checked or replaced.

1. yes I am out of my mind.
2. I will take note of the knock sensors and harness, I will research a replacement.
3. I bought the Shield from Ebay for $300. and had it painted,
4. check and replace under plenum hoses! got it.

thanks.
