Exactly I use both as well. And I've had a couple nasty pieces of spyware that neither one would get, even when I deleted the registry entries the DLL rewrote them immediately, couldn't delete the DLL because there was a hidden browser helper object that locked the DLL and didn't show up anywhere...So as a last resort, download and run "HijackThis!" It doesn't scan in the same way as Adaware and SpyBot, it runs almost instantaneousy. You have to be careful because a lot of the stuff it will list is stuff that should be there and you should leave alone. I only recommend HiJackThis! if you have an idea what you're looking for.
Incidentally, I work in a corporate IT department and last week I was called by an employee whose IE was crashing and was getting massive popups. I ran AdAware on her PC, it found 627 objects! Highest count I've ever seen! Then SpyBot nabbed a few more..I manually uninstalled some other crap, it was a mess. But that woman is the reigning spyware champion at my company, nobody else has beat 627.
