I just bought my first 240SX Convert and love it, great shape and was wondering about a chip for it. I've seen some for $200.00 us and up to $800. Has anyone had any experience with them or can someone recommend one chip over another? I have 193,000 on the motor and it checked out great only 10% in a leak down test. So I know its still pretty strong. Looking for some suggestions.

Thanks Al

What do you mean by computer chip? Cars don't have a spot where you can plug a chip in. Now im confused. Are you talking about the ECU? Electronic Computer unit. That is what I am guessing its name is.

I suppose I am, sorry I love cars however Im not sure on the terminalligy ( spelling ?) I can describe what it does and maybe that will explain it a bit better. Its a chip that plugs in I assume but what it does is give you a extra 20-30 horse power I assume retarding the timing and allowing more gas and air. Correct me please if am wrong here.

Don't buy them.. they are scams.

I've spent a lot of time on these NICO forums and never once heard of someone making extra power with any kind of chip. At least not in a Nissan.. VW's... yes.. Nissans.. no.

We do things differently around here because I don't think Nissan ECU's can be modified by an external or interal aftermarket "chip".

Spend the money on a cold air intake, and exhaust sytem, save up for a turbo kit, etc..

PDM Racing claims a 25hp gain with their ECU tune:

From http://www.pdm-racing.com/features/court240.html :

ECU:

For the ECU we are allowed to have a tuned ECU, provided we keep the same housing and connections. PDM has managed to crack the KA code and tune the engines for higher power outputs. From the ECU tune alone, we have found around 25 RWHP. Impressive for simply changing the timing and fuel maps.

The same holds true for the Titan. Many people look for the easy plug and play chip method to add hp, but there is just no chip available for the Titan either. From the programmers I talked to, Nissan's codes are virtually impossible to break, therefore in order to change any parameters from what the ECU wants, it must be tricked into thinking it is getting what it requests. The only thing I have seen that actually works is a piggy back, or secondary ECU like what Stillen uses with their Super Charger.

Thanks for the info guys, I guess I was looking for the quick inexpensive fix, like the Miata's of old, but the stock 155 hp isn't so bad. Hey the car is 14 years old and messing too much with the motor may be pushing my luck on my every day driver. Washed and waxed the baby today she looks fine. Oh .... and so does the 240!!!! LOL

Actually, E-Mance does in fact sell a tune chip for the KA24DE. For the chip and the daughter board they go for 125$.

You are looking at about +11hp and +7/8 torque. They even have dyno's.

Check out the link in my signature. The auction is only for the chip, you also need the daughter board. They have the charts there, along with more information.

I bought an emance chip for my sentra about 2 months ago and I'm very happy with it so I can honestly say I suggest one for a easy upgrade but do some other stuff to like exhaust and intake and they can compensate for those upgrades.
