Here is the info from the ad:

"i have a motor out of a 2003 350z comes with heads it has a rod bearing with some play in it, but the rod and cylnder wall still look good. this would be perfect if you wanted to build it for a z or g35 or even swapping a 240sx to the big vq. comes with two sets of stock manifolds."

Guy wants $400 firm. Trying to take the first step towards FI application. While mechanically inclined, rebuilt a '63 triumph motorcycle engine, not sure if a "Build" would fix ALL or most of potential problems.

You guys have any advise on what to look for or be wary of?

Thanks

I would buy it for $400 in a heartbeat.

Does the VQ35 have cylinder sleeves? Can you overbore the shortblock while still maintaining wall strength?

I found a balanced and blueprinted short block that has been bored and honed, with arias pistons, Pauter H-Beam rods for $4465.

seems damn high...just trying to figure all this out.

Is that the Cosworth small block?

Thats the only one that I have seen out without people building it themselves.

The Cosworth looks like a real solid build with the head combo.

They say you can safely rev up to 10,500 RPMS!!

It doesn't specifically say that it is Cosworth but I'll call them and see! I'd post a link but not sure how mods would like that......

Internals for the VQ motor are very expensive.

They don't look like they are the same. 10,500 rev limit on the Cosworth? sounds like the way to go!

edit: The Cosworth is almost $8K while this other is under$5K. I need to spend more time making sure I'm comparing apples to apples

I also am still pondering if I buy the longblock mentioned how much of a risk it would be that the shortblock is damaged. Will a visual inspection, by a novice, pick up most flaws?

Thanks

You might not know what to look for. I'm sure there are some test that can be run. Like a compression test or something.

Compression test might be difficult if the engine out of the car. I'm not sure what they would use to turn it over.

Considering how many VQ35DEs there are, I'm surprised at how expensive they are. I realize that quite a few are the wrong orientation, but shoot, Infiniti puts out 30k+ G35s every year. Combine that with the 350Z, then multiply it times 3-4 years and there should be quite a few of them floating around.

The guy is saying that the motors is from a friends 03 350Z . When the motor started "Knocking" the 'Friend' decided to buy a longblock from a wrecking yard. Seller went on to say the delivery comp. dropped the motor which was insured so 'Friend' was able to buy a new motor.

So does this story sound like something I should risk $400 on. I'm not sure what would cause the knocking. Play between the pistons and cylinder wall? I have to decide before Sunday morning!

thanks again

if anything....just buy the $400 one and use it for the $995 core charge and keep your current motor in while you build the SFR one up. It'll take awhile to build the swap motor if you're doing it all at once. I'm assuming your gonna buy the SFR block, and heads and turbo and do it all at once? Either way, good luck!

That is kinda what I was thinking. Buy this engine, exchange the shortblock for the SFR built one....or check further into custom building one, then sell or keep my original engine.

If everything goes as planned, I might try and find a buyer for my shortblock BEFORE I take it out of the G so whomever can run a compression test, etc.

Thanks for the support guys!
