Not really interested in building up a 'system' I'm just tired of hearing the tweeters in my rear Pioneer ts-a1781r's rattling thru the whole volume range. I believe they have gone to crap because when my rear window decided to shatter and possibly some glass damaged them. That's my guess since they were perfectly fine before the incident. So now they rattle all the time.

Anywho. I have Blaupunkt 4" round PC series in the doors, and an old Pioneer head-unit. Was wondering what would be a good replacement speaker for the rear. Are Blaupunkt's good? I never really heard of them, so far I like the ones I just bought for the doors, ( I got them because they had a better rms-rating than the 4'' Pioneer ones). I was looking at some on Crutchfield and saw some 6.5's come with separate tweeters.

Anything else I should look at? I'm in the $120 and below range. Just looking for good-enough bass and reliability. I don't listen to my music loud, just loud enough that my exhaust doesn't over power it.

Thanks!

Try looking on Ebay for some Infinity Reference 6010CS. I have a set in the doors of my 90 coupe and they sound A W E S O M E....even with the minimal power by an Alpine cd player. BTW, they were under $100 shipped!!!

The ones with seperate tweeters are called component speakers. They offer the best sound quality, but REQUIRE an amp to get them to sound good.

I personally would recommend the Roadmaster 6.5 speakers at walmart They're $20 a pair, and sound pretty good

Roadmaster? Bwah? Is that sarcasm? That price is almost too cheap. And yeah, no plans on getting an amp here, I just want really good-sounding speakers.

Looking on Crutchfield I saw that the Polk db650's have the highest rating, and they are a good price ($80). How about those?

NCturbo: They have the Infinity reference speakers for $74.99 on Crutchfield too.

Nope, no sarcasm

I am dead serious. Get them. Install them and listen. If you don't like them take them back. It's only $20.

I've had them before. They are MUCH better then alot of speakers believe it or not.

You sure there isn't still some glass shards on/touching the woofers cone or even the speaker basket? You've likely got debris that is rattling. Pull the speakers and gently wipe them down with a soft fuzzy cloth to catch and hold all the glass debris.

Actually I just did what you said this afternoon. Found some just hanging out in the speaker. That and the wiring is probably not so good. I've only had these speakers for a year and i'm shocked they're sounding like crap already so it can't be them. I'm going to have my bf tool around w/ the wiring, he said something about it may need a 'filter' since I can wiggle the harness going to the stock amp and the buzzing goes away. Hopefully i got all the glass out. Stupid rear window.. ugh.

Don't let your BF put a "filter" in the system.

More then likely he thinks it's a ground loop.

But it's not as denoted by the fact that the buzzing goes away when you wiggle the wire. It wouldn't go away if it was a ground loop.

I'd suggest that you just clean up all the connections first

they do...but that is for the coaxials. The price I was referring to was for the component set. I searched a good bit and on Ebay was the best price for them. Just make sure if you do decide on Inifinty's...they are new and not used.

Yes do like PoorManQ45 says and check all of your connections. If wiggling the wire causes the noise to cut in and out, then something is either wrong with your connections, or the speaker wire running to your speaker. I don't recommend trying to power the infinity 6010cs components with your old headunit. They are rated for 90w RMS (continous power) and your headunit probably makes around 18-22w (at best). They will play, but not sound as good as they should unless powered by an outboard amp. I recommend the infinity 6.5 inch coaxials. They handle 75w RMS (i think that's the correct rating) and will sound as good as the more expensive components (at the power your headunit is going to feed them) at a much lower price. Easier to install than a component system as well. Polks are good. I'm partial to the infinity reference series for speakers and components though.
