ADICE WANTED: 92 Q showing 115K on the clock. Guides and cooler (and a lot of other things!) done at T-3 in 2000, with Dennis commenting in old forum msg #4951. "...the 92Q with 80K was probably the finest example of a standard Q we had seen in a long time." Heath got me a 93 TCU and it is installed. Recent 4K trip to wetern New Mexico (new home site, hopefully!) was done at high cruise speeds, a/c constantly, and delivering low 20 mpgs. This Q is still in the shape it was in 2000....EXCEPTIONAL! I have had absolutely no problems, and a total of less than $75 in repair costs in 90K of driving. The advice I would like is: should I order the under plenium rubber kit from Scottsdale and have installed when I have the 120K service done (all fluid changed out, with Mobile 1 as always), or, postpone such until I start to experience signs of rubber failure under there, such as gasoline odor, coolant puddles, etc.? Do not mind spending the bucks, but do not like to throw them away needlessly, either! I plan on keeping the vehicle in that I still maintain it is one of the best built and performing vehicles on the road...bar none! If the consensus is that I should do all the rubber under there, is there any other things I should replace as long as it is off? Again, is there a parts package that Joe would have readily available? In advance, folks, thanks for your thoughts! (I can hear Dennis, now, saying bring it on over to Atlanta!) And, if my mechanic says that he does not want to tackle the job, I will do exactly that, before taking the wonderous beast out west where her high speed capabilities can be fully appreciated!

Under plenum hose failures in the high desert at speed would be most unpleasant. The difference is preventative maintenance vs. destructive failure, or triage, at best.

Just do it and don't worry.

Is the rubber original, or did T3 replace it when you had the other work done? If it's original, then take it back to T3 and have them do all the under plenum work while they're in there. They can be trusted to know what needs doing.

I kinda wonder about a "mechanic" who is intimidated by fuel and coolant hoses...

In your 120k service are you taking teh plenum off anyway?.Then the answer is a resounding yes.

If your plenum isnt coming off then, I would still have it done next you need to go there..

Fred...:)

The plenum doesnt have to come off for plugs........

But, if you do decide to do it (recommended) then make sure you test all the injectors, and ones that are starting to fail put on the edges so that you can get to them without taking off the plenum..... R/R the knock sensors......

If you want a good idea on how the hoses are, take off the upper radiator hose..... You will probably have to wedge something in there...... If there is any signs of deteration, then replace...... But when I replaced my Tstat, the hose was just fine, and looked almost new inside...... Its possible my hoses were replaced at some point in time......

Mine are all OEM, and, everyting I have ever been "taught" aboout Janpanese OEM hoses is that they are the best in the business, and will pretty much last indefinately. Thanks fellows! I am sure others will weigh in with their thougts. I do the TECHRON thing at each oil change, and try and use CHEVRON fuel when I can find it. Otherwise, it is Mobil 93.

It's a good idea to replace knock sensor and knock sensor harness while replacing hoses. You'll avoid repeat labor for plenum removal.

Sounds like your car has had an easy life. I wouldn't worry too much. Take it to T-3 and get everything done right.

You might want to take the plastic cover (3 pieces) off the front of the engine so you can visually inspect the hoses now and in the future. I don't think it has any purpose other than cosmetics.

It protects the fuel hoses...... Wouldnt want flying road debris kicked up by the fan killing one of those hoses!!!! Especially on a hot engine!!!
