I moved your thread to the autocross forum so you can get some guidance from our well-seasoned cone-killers.

Read through the http://www.scca.org site for starters. This will help you find your local chapter of the SCCA which is definitely the place to start racing. There are so many helpful folks involved with the SCCA and grassroots racing in general that you shouldn't have any problem once you just get plugged in.

time attacks, road racing, etc, can be done thru http://www.scca.org like repo man said.

I'm currently into autox: http://www.solo2.com/ (that's the so cal one taht's close to you)

Next practice is October 14th. Next "championship" is October 15th. Practices open about 2 weeks ahead of time and on first-come-first-serve via usps mail, around so cal, they fill up w/in the first 2 days typically. Championships are more noob friendly, though you get less runs - but you get novice walks, instructors available, etc.

If drift days are your thing, check out the drift subforum (I don't currently participate in those, so I don't know the sites, but there are plenty).

Also, you can typically do forum searches/google searches if you want to run full race track (i.e. buttonwillow/willow springs). I know the srt4 boys run it montly.

As for a tools checklist, should be available either scca.org or solo2.com.

Keep the "we" to yourself buddy . Even if you don't make it in, it might be worth it just to come out and see how things are run, get some ride-a-longs, etc. That's how I started.

BTW to the original poster Auto crosses are held at the camarillo airport occationaly...The Corvair club, and PCA (porche club america)The Corvair club just had one there on the 10th, and PCA on the 16th....

But neither of them run there consistantly, The corvair club only has a few a year....PCA typicaly runs at other locations...

http://www.corvair.org/chapters/chapter931/ for the corvair club, although they are HORRIBLE at updating their page

http://www.pcasb.org/For Santa Barbara PCAEvents calender is http://www.pca.org/zone8/ax_events.htm(SBR is the local region)

The immediate area doesn't seem to have alot of regular events, but like I said if your willing to make the 1-2 hour drive out to Fontana you can usualy find an event...

New brake pads (track pads) and good brake fluid (Motul RBF 600 or Valvoline something blue, I forget). Get a brake fluid with a high boiling point. Because pad / fliud fade SUCKS!

Also extra motor oil, hand tools incase something breaks, radiator fluid. Bring stuff that you would normally take on a long trip, since you will be pushing your car hard for an exstended period of time. General stuff like that.
