Hey everyone.
I'm looking into buying a 2nd generation g35 but I'm not that informed in regards to the car's pros and cons. Most of the ones I came across are high mileage and I'm aware that issues come with that. My other option is a Honda accord and I'm not much of a fan of the car. So any information and advice with performance, reliability, maintenance and overall ownership experience will be appreciated.

P.S. We have an 05 Acura RL converted to a Mugen Honda Legend, how does the g stand in a comparison to that, as the Legend is a fabulous car.

What years do you define as 2nd-generation? WIKI calls the '03-06 G35 (behind the G20-series) as 3rd generation while I would personally call that the 1st generation. To me, the '07+ sedan (including Q40) and the '08+ coupe (including Q60 through 2015) is the second generation.

Regardless, the only years that really had issues were the '03-04's which would have some oil use issues and some front alignment issues (usually I hear more about the '03's having this problem). Otherwise the key is to make sure the vehicle has been maintained properly and you should be good to go for quite a while.

I mean the '07+. I was wondering if it'll be a purchase I won't regret as the car I buy I intend to keep for some years down the road and do some cosmetic mods on it.

I've never owned a G series car, but a close friend in college had an '03 G35 Sport and a current roommate has an '06 G35x. My college friend got rid of it when he saw oil starting to get into the plug wells at around 75k miles - not sure why...it would have been an easy fix. Other than that, he said it'd be a quart low when it came time to change oil (he did it every 3k miles). He maintained it well and only mod was lowering it. Was a great car to drive and have fun in. My roommate's '08 had to replace one wheel bearing so far and that's it for unscheduled maintenance. I just changed his oil for him two weeks ago at just over 3k miles and it wasn't low. It has 118k miles.

You won't go wrong with a well maintained, later year G35. Just consider this: When you pull up next to a G37, will you wish you opted to get the newer, more powerful model?

The issue I have with the g37 is the gcc version comes with bigger headlights that I hate more than anything.

Not exactly sure what you mean by "bigger headlights".

In my view they are a bit ugly. At least in the gcc spec.

So you're okay with not having the superior vehicle solely because you don't like the headlights?

Bold strategy, Cotton. Let's see how it works out for him.

Not only that but most g37 are US spec and don't really work well here.

The G35's have bigger headlights than the G37. The G37's all come standard with bi-Xenon HID so I'm not really sure what does not work well.
