I was curious Its quite easy to see all the rebuilding stuff ofr a redtop but I was currently searching for rebuilding components for a s14 sr20det.

From what I can tell you can get pistons from Wiseco. But what im really curious about is how I would go about getting a non forged cast piston with hyper eutectic manufacturing process employed, and maybe a ceramic top or hard coat applied to them. I also was curious as to what kind of Piston rings Wiseco offered? Its from my understanding that rings are coated in compounds like steel and other metals that are sprayed on to keep them working for a long lifetime.

But most of all what does a gasket kit for a sr20det s14 contain? Is everything in there for a rebuild? Or would I need anything else. Im sure there are other internal components I would need to get.

Basically what im looking for is Hyper eutectic pistons (cast) with ceramic tops that are dished. That come with steel coated or alloy steel coated oil rings. With an overbore of .02 or .04 at 10.5 comp or 11.5 comp. I do realize this is high compression dont worry I know. (Its from my understanding that the Wisecow pistons actually outperform hypereutectic pistons. But im not one to buy and try I read and learn then buy and try. Is this true of their statement on their website? Its also from my understanding that the hypereutectic pistons absorb less heat. Although you can add ceramic or hard coating to a forged piston why not add that to hypereutectic pistons instead?)

Could you introduce me to the difference in rods? I heard they sell Titanium rods? What kind of rods would go good with my piston setup?

you can search around, Try http://www.revhard.com or http://www.raretrick.com I know raretrick has tones and tones of JDM. HKS, Greddy, Jun, Cusco, and some I've never heard of. I'm pretty sure that Jun sells titanium rods. Also, are you rebuilding the whole engine? All your talking about is the lower engine. I mean, if our going to rebuild why not go ahead and upgrade cam shafts, cam gears, valves and springs, rocker arm stopers. Etc etc etc. I also seen rebored sleves. What is your HP goal?? If you really want to see a fortified engine, I'd search around for the silver (NX i think) s15. it's 700 hp with a huge shot of NOS. Which explains the fortifications. It was in Super Street a couple of months back.

I know that JG Engine Dynamics can make pistons to whatever specifications you want. They are based somewhere here in California.

Yeah im gonna do the whoel engine but i was jsut asking peice by peice to make sure I get all the info for each piece before putting like a 4 page post about everything and then get spotty results because nobody wants to re read a post 7 times to reply to each paragraph.

Ill have to check into the JG engine place I need specific pistons so ill have to call them or something I live in the middle of nowhere. The other stuff liek cams, rockers, valves, springs and what not are going to be a future discussion right now Im focusing on bottom end pistons and rods. No crankshaft though if anything all I will do is grind and knife it but that is if it needs it.

what are your goals for the engine. sounds like your going pretty wild with it

Well ok to be honest since I figured that I cant get away not telling anything about what the set up is going to be like I thought I would divuldge to you a little more info involved with this engine.

First off its not my engine its my friend's but seeing as how he is interested in building up an engine he decided to ask me. Im ok on this stuff but I decided to post ehre as to what you guys would reccomend.

My initial post said that it was going to be a sr20det I must retract that statement I guess I misunderstood from my friend but he wants to get a non turbo sr s14.

His reasoning behind this was that he would rather spend the money once then over and over again on turbo components and electrical maintenence behind the turbo setup. Instead he was going for a realization of a more american muscle meets japanese tunability.

He and I did some reading and from what I can surmize he would like everything I outlined in my initial post. Basically hes looking for that VVT system non turbo with a good amount of strength in a four cylinder engine.

He has deliberated to me that he will continously do further reading on upgrading each and every component in the engine and what will be suitable for his build up. But we need reccomendations as to what is good out there and who to buy from.

We have no goal. Basically this is more of money goal than anything. Without realizing the true power potential and what can be gained he told me he would rather visualize obtainable parts and put them together for functionality then figure out what the actual outcome the horsepower will be in the end.

Most everything will be delegated by the expense of the parts themselves. But he oversees this issue not me. IM merely here as a knowledge base and message man.

So from what he told me he wants to build an engine that runs strong and feels strong to the throttle but without the future maintenance expense of a turbo or other forced induction system.

He told me he wanted a silent engine with little piston slap, little blow by gas and a low deck height from the dish to the top oil ring. I suggested hyper eutectic pistons because from my hot rod or small black experience that is what they like to use for low to mid ranged horsepower output. Mind you my experience is limited. Also he stated he wanted a good set of rods although he didnt outline what was important to him, I was looking and found Pauter to be a good choice because of the chrome moly set up.

How ever if a pre made piston set up is unnatainable I will probably have to get a specific piston made for our use. Other than that the other parts im still unsure on. Cam sets and valves and valve springs coem to mind.

We arent going for outragious performance just a well performing engine that will last a long time. He really isnt into a 700 hp engine jsut something that may hold ist own if the instance appropriated itself.

But any other parts that arent as specific because they top end build ups like cams and valves and valve springs stuff like that feel free to elaborate on experience and where to get them cheap. Any parts will do as long as they outperform the factory parts. If there arent any parts that outperform the factory ones hell let us know less money to spend on this buildup right?

Thanks alot guys I await your intuition.

What I took away from your latest post is that you are looking for turbo/FI like power, by running a higher compression and with the appropriate headwork? And the engine that you are working with is a KA24DE? (2.4L S14 N/A engine)

You could probably get 200hp out of a built KA24DE with all the bolt ons. If that is the route you are going, then I suggest you hop on over to the KA24 forum and do some research.

No the silver top sr20de non turbo. Not the ka24de the sr has Valve timing.

Poor disicion in my opinion....

-Comes with shorter gears in the transmission-no direct ignition-vvt will do almost nothing (made to make up power lost by switching to low port heads)

Since your replacing EVERYTHING, just get a dirt cheap S13 Redtop with no ecu, turbo, intercooler, etc......

I can understand these points

-Comes with shorter gears in the transmission-no direct ignition-vvt will do almost nothing (made to make up power lost by switching to low port heads)

(This hit me while I was typing)<Could I just remove the turbo system from the sr redtop? Thus retaining the direct ignition?>

IF I could infact take off the turbo setup on the s13 sr20det then that would make my transmission better and my ignition direct in theory.

But in fact what would one do to remove the turboset up that was put in the turbo sr? There are from what I can tell lines to cool the turbo short from plugging them up I could rerout them to run through without being connected to the turbo. Other than that I could buy a non turbo oil pan to replace the turbo one with the oil feed line for the turbo. Or even rerout that one to feed to the block if that is where the recirculation of the oil is fed to.

If buying a turbo sr setup and removing the turbo components and rebuilding the system to run with the direct ignition and coil packs would work I would be thrilled. That would save me some time sourcing a turbo transmission and trying to retrofit a direct ignition.

The advantage of the redtop lies in its HEAD design. The turbo setup on the S14 motor is actually better.

Both versions of the motor have direct ignition.

Stock S14 SR20DET will surprise you. I have one, but it's not stock. Even the S13 redtop crowd, which is a great engine honesty, is also just as great of an engine. If it's simplicity and power you want, get an S14 SR20DET.

I looked around for it, Edelbrock does not have a crate SR
