The 6 month / 7,500 mile interval is for people who drive mostly on the highway. The 3 month / 3,750 interval is for city drivers. Let me give you a couple of hypothetical examples.
One is an old fart who drives 5 miles to the senior citizens' center every morning and 5 miles back home every evening. This is very hard on the oil since the engine never really warms up. He needs to change his oil every 3 months even though the distance is only 900 miles.
The other one is a college student who lives on campus and only uses the car one weekend a month to drive 150 miles home and 150 miles back again on the interstate. This is very easy on the oil. He could get by with one oil change a year even though his monthly mileage is the same as the old fart's.
You need to decide where you fall between these two extremes. Until the warranty expires, I would not go more than 6 months between oil changes.
