advice on cpo ex35

Discussion of Infiniti's amazing (and underrated) sport-luxury crossovers, the EX35 and EX37. For 2014, the EX series will be renamed QX50, in line with Ininfiit's new naming conventions.

I am looking at a 2012 cpo ex35 awd, 31K miles, $25,700. Clean carfax, regular maintenance, registered as a corporate vehicle. It's been listed for 40+ days. It is priced below market value and there are very few listed in my area.

What is a reasonable offer if I like the vehicle after a test drive? I would rather go to the dentist than negotiate with a car salesperson.

Am I missing a warning sign on the price?

Infiniti seems to have a good cpo program.

I appreciate any and all advice.

Not sure which trim and options are associated with the car you're looking at. Care to post a link of the dealer's listing?

Looks like a warm deal.
It would be a good deal if it was a 2012 EX AWD Journey CPO.

I did a lot of pricing and research last year when I bought my 2011 EX.

IMHO (Under 30K mileage)
1) 2012 EX AWD Journey under ~$27K is good deal
2) 2012 EX AWD under ~$25K is a good deal.

You are buying a certified pre-owned. So how much more is that worth to you?

Example:

This is the journey + touring package. Very good price. I would definitely call if I was shopping now.

Thank you ppan76! That is a great car price, but I'm a lot more comfortable with a cpo. I like the added security of a manufacturer warranty when it comes to a luxury brand.

Since the vehicle I'm looking at has 31k miles, is not a journey, and is $25700, what would be a good offer? Are you happy with your car's reliability?

It's a big decision and I am grateful for the advice!

2012 EX35 Base with 31k miles CPO for $25700 I think it's good.

You get extended infiniti warranty for another 3 years/60K miles. That's is worth around $700-$900.
Plus everything else they mention on their cpo program.

Just make sure you verify what is covered in the CPO warranty. I believe this is just a powertrain warranty. The CPO wrap is the one that covers most bumper to bumper, but the price is around $1200+ if buying it from the dealership, that is still not comparable to the stand alone Elite Warranty that you can buy from Courtney in Arizona.

Courtney explained to me that it is not worth buying a CPO or CPO wrap warranty if the car is a year old. The coverage basically starts on the intitial date the car was sold. So you basically loosing 3 years coverage if the car is 2 or 3 years old. She advised to just buy the car without CPO and pay to have Infiniti inspect the car (certify) and pay $120. Buy a warranty from Courtney for a full bumper to bumper coverage. The CPO wrap does not cover all like the Elite warranty that Courtney offers. If you are in USA I will go with Courtney if you decided to have full coverage.

Here is the email I sent to her with her response:

The car does NOT have to be CPO, so you definitely do not have to pay the $899 for CPO...if you do not buy the car from an Infiniti dealer than you have to take it to an Infiniti dealer and pay the $120 to inspect the car for neglect of maintenance and pre-existing issues...the inspection is attached...CPO and Wrap back date to in-service date so you are losing over three years of the coverage, so you are really only adding 3 or 4 yrs if you went with 84mo or 96mo Wrap, plus you would be paying for the CPO $899 and the Wrap, so its usually more expensive and less coverage...I only advise for CPO&Wrap if the car is only one year old otherwise its best just to save the $899 CPO and go with the Elite Protection Plan on its own...

Based off your current mileage these are your options for extending your factory coverage...

2012 G37x w/ 25,000 miles (price and term will change once you exceed 30k).

$100 Ded
36mo/36k=$550
36mo/48k=$660
48mo/48k=$810
48mo/60k=$1010
60mo/60k=$1250
60mo/70k=$1390
72mo/82k=$1460

YES this is the factory warranty and NOT 3rd party!! The Infiniti Elite Protection Plan will start the day you purchase it and the mileage allowance will be added to what is currently on your odometer. The deductible is per visit not per item repaired. The car must be under the original warranty and Infiniti requires a "Pre-Purchase" FULL inspection at an Infiniti dealer prior to issuing the policy (not a basic Multi-Point inspection). Please let me know if you have any questions regarding the Infiniti Elite Protection Plan. Thanks again and have a great day.

Courtney,

Could you give me a quote for 2012 G37x sedan with 25k miles on it with 0 deductible?
84/100k and 96/120K. This is a used G37x and I am thinking if I buy this i will buy the warranty from you. The dealer is telling me that if they certified the car , it is an extra $900. Which only covers powertrain for 60/100k miles. Is this true? I told them I want a CPO Wrap like the elite.
If I buy the car non CPO, do I still have to have them inspect it and pay $120? According to Carfax, car was checked already prior to delivery to them.

Thanks!

AWGD8: Those are good prices. I will call her later to see how much it will cost for me.
I got a quoted $700 from Circle Infiniti. 3 years/48K miles 100 deduc. I thought they only had 1 type of extended warranty. Not sure if the quote is for the Elite Protection

Ppan76, i bought my elite extended warranty from circle infiniti in New Jersey. The local dealer only offers CPO and CPO wrap for used cars. The Elite is only offers on brand new cars and stand alone elite from courtney or in new jersey . Basically, there are only 3 warranties. Elite , CPO and CPO wrap.

If you want to be covered with the elite warranty, make sure you buy the warranty before the original powertrain warranty expires. I can't remember if it is 60 or 70 k miles or 6 -7 years?

BTW, courtney can also offer $0 or $50 deductible instead of $100.

Just an FYI, I am here at my local Infiniti service dealer to check for oil seep/weep ( not dripping) behind the top timing chain cover.

Just like this picture below( not my car) but it seems
this is a common issue with VQ engine.

So , the service told me it is the timing belt cover and cost $2,800 to fix. It is a 16 hour job!
I think if you want to keep the car for more than 5 years it is a great idea to buy an extended warranty.
This is Infiniti and parts and labor is very expensive. Granted you can find an independent shop to fix it for dirt cheap, but Infiniti backs their work if it did not fix the first time.
Good thing I bought an Elite extended warranty!
I am really nervous to keep this car after the warranty expires.

I remember one member of ours mentioned that he had the same issue like this and fixed under warranty.

Always keep an eye on this issue, timing ,oil pan and camshaft cover leaks. It is hard to see it since the engine cover , covers it. Check it before your warranty expires.

AWGD8: I followed your advice and purchased the extended warranty.

I took my car to Kings Infiniti in NY and they inspected and washed the car. The service manager said since I was buying the extended warranty they wouldn't charge me and did the work as a courtesy for being a Nissan/Infiniti customer for over 20+ years. I was a very happy customer and will go back to them for servicing!

The extended warranty was purchased from Circle Infiniti. I really like dealing with Sherry. She was amazing to work with and very helpful. In addition, it was cheaper than Courtney.

That's great! You can extend it before the powertrain warranty expires whichever comes first . :dblthumb:
