Ok.. maybe someone can help me here.. Im planing on upgrading my current components (MB quarts not cutting it anymore - installed in front door and tweets will go in the front too) and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. I wanted to keep it under $400 and has any one heard anything good on "Focal" products?

Which MB Quarts did you have? What did you like and what didn't you like? What are you expecting from your next speakers?

I curently have the RVF 269.. Just doesnt sound as good as I would have expected.. Pro's: are that they are decent sounding and havent blown out so far.Con's: Expected better from MB quart and just doesnt sound so nice and crisp. --Just looking for something that sounds crisper and more acoustic friendly.. I listen to lots of Rock, alternative, Reagge and instrumental.

Deck power or amped? I had a set of the reference series at one point and thought they sounded pretty good (I was bi amping them with and active crossover though). What was your thoughts on the high frequency and the mid-range? I'm just trying to get an idea of what your ear likes, so I can make a GOOD recommendation.

I'm actually using my stock head unit connected to a JL cleansweep. Yup, they are amp powered. To be honest with you.. in a scale from a 1-10 they sound like a 6.Highs and mids just sound flat... Mids do sound a but fuller tho.. Not sure if aluminum dome tweeters would sound best or something else.I was thhinking of something like in the line of.. http://signature.crutchfield.c...p=106

Aluminum tweeters will sound a bit sharper. Also, what are the settings on the crossovers? That can make a big difference as well.

Well actually the JL cleansweep has an auto-synchronization x-over disc. Just pop it in press a few buttons on the cleansweep and its synched.. pretty nifty.I highly believe that its the quality of the speakers.. not that great.

OK, as audtatious and I were talking about earlier... the "OLDER" German made MB Quart were quality speakers! They sounded fantastic... I am actually running their premium line PCE 210 4' and 1' tweeter as part of my 3 way component setup in my front stage...

HOWEVER, the newe china made stuff after they were bought out by Maxxsonics is CRAP... even with an audiocontrol DQXS, or audison bit one, you just can't make those sound musical...

now, regarding FOCAL, yes their top of the line stuff sounds great, but personally I would NOT get anything below their K2F line. To be honest, their K2P line out right now are almost identical to the last generation Focal "Utopias" ... but the polyglass and access lines are NOT very good, and are NOT worth the money...

if you want a great sounding set of components, talk to Broadfield over in the Audio forum of NICO (not altimas) ... he swears by this certain brand of speakers... I personally think my Diamond Audio Hex s600 components were slightly below the Focal K2P's, but were hundreds of dollars cheaper...

also, regarding the tweeters, the Diamond Audio s600 comes with aluminum (s600a) or silk (s600s) dome tweeters... silk dome tweeters are more musical, alumnim tweeters have a tendency to be harsh, especially when overdriven or improperly tuned!

I don't think you will be disappointed with the s600s components... I'm running the 6.5 from the s600s components right now, but am about to go to a full diamond audio front stage with

1" silk dome tweeter4" D641 midrange6.5" hex s600 midbass6"x9" SL95 Boston Acoustics rear fill

running these off of a rockford fosgate power T600x4 and a Rockford fosgate Power T400x4... each speaker or tweeter has a dedicated channel from the amplifier... this is run through the audison bitone sound processor...

whenever you feel like you want more from your system acoustically, I HIGHLY recommend you get the audison bitone...

hands down the best audio processor for a car ever made! best of luck with your system... keep us informed...

also, you really should meet up with us one of these Thursday evenings at our weekly car meets bruh!

If you ever happen upon the cash though, Focal 165 KF/KR's sound freaking amazing. The inverted tweeter is unbelieveable, and the 6.5's sound like little woofers but provide the full spectrum of sound. Stay away from the KR2's though.

I get goosebumps from lossless acoustic tracks.
