Hi I'm a newbie here and a complete 'idiot' when it comes to cars...

I found this site and I hope experienced owners here could lend a hand...I tried to search on my question but didn't find a whole lot of information, so...

I have a 99 I30 and it started to make crazy sqeaking noise a week ago on the brakes. I took it in today and bad news - both rear brake calipers are locked up and the rotors were worn as a result so I need to replace calipers, rotors and pads...sigh. We only have one Infiniti dealer in town and I've been using them since I bought the car in 2001 and they have been very good. To get parts from them, the calipers cost full price which is 415 each. I searched online and saw quite some posts talking about late 90s I30 having this issue...

My questions:1. Is this a common issue with 99 I30s? My car has 90k on it right now and I kept it well serviced, I don't drive rough either.2. Are there other things I should know or do other than having the dealer replace all those parts?3. I searched the sponsors for NICO and looks like I can get Nissan parts for 330-340, a lot better than 415 but still is an 'ouch'. Any suggestions on finding cheaper ones, or should I go with remfd or other brands parts?

Sorry for all the questions...please give me some advices here. Thanks a lot!

I just replaced the brakes on my 01 maxima (very similar calipers) and remanu' calipers are the way to go. Can't beat the price, about 130. ea. for the rears. 85.ea. for the fronts. Find a local mechanic to do the work for you, his hourly rate will be about 35%-45% cheaper than the stealership. The remanu's only reuse the caliper body itself and the piston head, all other components are new.

Green, check with some of our sponsors for brake parts. You should find them cheaper than Infiniti. You can also take it to a brake shop for them to repair as that will be a cheaper option too. Welcome to NICO!

Hey Bean, how is the oil catcher doing on the VQ30? I was aware of blow-by on the VQ35, but not necessarily the VQ30....
