OIL PUMP OIL PUMP OIL PUMP OIL PUMP OIL PUMP OIL PUMP OIL PUMP OIL PUMP OIL PUMP OIL PUMP OIL PUMP OIL PUMP OIL PUMP OIL PUMP OIL PUMP OIL PUMP OIL PUMP OIL PUMP OIL PUMP OIL PUMP

Yes... replace it before you put it in... I made the mistake of not doing that and I spun my rod bearings.. FCUK~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I put in the new oil pump and ran fine for few days and yesterday the thing started knocking... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA now I have to pretty much rebuild the engine with new headgasket and new head bolts (which were new when I put them in)...

damn I suck at life......

Meh... went too far already to turn back now. Im trying to look at it from the bright side... When Im done with the rebuild, its practially a new engine and I can beat on it for years to come hehehehe.

I took the engine apart tonight and main bearing #2 and #3 chewed up pretty bad and #2 bearing left a nice groove on my crank... nice. #4 rod bearing was completely chewed up... Probably the worst condition bearing.

Oil pump brand new costs about 200~250 shipped. Believe me... its worth every penny and it will save you money in the end... and not have to rebuild the engine like me.

Well.. some people get lucky and their engine has good oil pump and everything runs perfectly smooth. Those are the kinds that people want to hear about and think that their engine will do the same. See... that was me. I had a friend that told me to change the oil pump but no.... I decided to save some money and gambled and hoped that the oil pump would be good but it wasnt. I ran it for a day not knowing about the oil pump and and oil light starts to flicker... uhoh what do I do? I run it for another day becayse it only flickers during idle. Well... now look where I am.

All this gamb|ing and guessing game CAN be avoided if you spend a bit more money and do it right the first time.

Dam that sucks. I had my SR running for a short time and it was ticking for the first 20 seconds then cleared up. I still have some wiring to do. Also did you know the mileage on the motor, what year is the motor, was there any sign that the motor was in an accident?

Its a redtop soo early 90s... No clue on mileage. When we took apart the motor, the cylinder walls were in great shape and the internals looked pretty healthy and no gunked up oil anywhere....

When I got the motor, CAS, Coolant neck and heatshield was all broken... Which tells me it might have been in a front end accident OR the motor got damaged while being shipped to my place... (probably why the oil pump was bad). Also there was a T in the FPR vac line so who knows what this previous owner did with that......

Might be why the engine was in a junkyard in the first place.

Well.... the first week or two that I had the engine it seemed to run fine... no weird noise or anything. So I doubt that the engine ended up in the yard because of spun bearings. Most likely because it was in an accident.

Im pretty sure that the oil pump grinded up my bearings...

I guess that's up to you... Personally, after what happened to my car, weird noise = too late.

My oil pan had no dents and when I switched to the greddy/trust pan I saw no visible signs of damage.....Could I still have missed something? Is there anyway to tell before I put my engine in?

When I took the motor apart, everything seemed fine before putting it in my car. No visual indication that something is wrong like the oil pump.

Only thing I can tell you is when I started up my car, it made this weird whinning noise from the front cover and at that time I thought it was the belts or something. It almost sounded like power steering pump whine or something.

But still, I would at least install oil pressure gauge to make sure. Also, its a big BIOTCH to change the oil pump with the engine still in the car. My friend did it for me since I could not go to the shop and believe me he was cursing all night and never wants to do it again.

dude i know i'm a bit late in posting this but there is a time difference for me.I done the exact same thing with my sr. and had all the same symptoms. mine is getting a fresh rebuild now which is kind of a good thing but not for my pocket. good luck with the sr they are heaps of fun to thrash around.
