craving4boost came up with an idea that i never thought of. he said why dont i advance base timing to about 22btdc or more then retard a lil more than usual with BTM. @ 14psi with 91 octane, how much should u retard? 1degree per psi? less? more???

Why would you do that?

To have advanced timing before spool, so pull off the line would be faster. Then gradually retard timing to the extent that it would reduce ping. Although, I would think the opposite would hold true, and that you would want to have retarded timing leaving the line, and advance it (disregarding the turbo, of course).

i actually heard it from someone else but i think this is an interesting idea. however i dont know how much each degree of advance can improve any performance. would this help spool the turbo faster?

HMM I could try it. Advance 4 degress...And have btm set at .75ish.So it would about 4 degress retard at 10psi... I know it would be 3.5 retard but can't exactly dial in btm. That should be safe no? At 5psi I would be at stock timing Then starts to retard...Maybe advance 5-6 degrees My octane is 93 here in florida

You can make a restrictor of some sort so the BTM only sees partial boost.I have a BTM to retard 10 degrees if I overboost past 10 psi as a safety measure. I think that you can make exactly the same. Havind your base timing at 20 (stock) and starting to retard past 5 psi.

how do you set that? the BTM can only be set to retard a certain degree at any psi. unless you have a different one. i dont have that option on my BTM. but i perfer nissanfanatics overboost protector

+1^, seems like a waste of money if that is all you use it for. I thought the idea was so that you could boost the crap out of a stock block. That is what I am using it for, 1 degree per psi til I max it. Then use the overboost protector at 16-17psi at manifold. The BTM will control my Jacob's i.C.E. Pak.

i was planning on using the msd btm, just havent gotten one. it would help out a lot in low rpms to get the turbo spooling the advance only needs to be at low rpm then retard to keep the a/f right as boost builds. it would make a healthier low to mid end power curve if it was set up right. i would only recomend using the btm for a budget oriented setup , if you run a chipped ecu then you just have to re burn your program to alter your spark curve.

I got the SAFC whooked up to stock knock sensor.Which I know isn't to accurate but.If there is somethign goign on wrong it will show some high #'s. It can show high #'s due to other engine noise but can at least tell if somethign bad happens. Why not test this ka.It got abused to hell before I got it.I pray that it starts.
