This is a Snail Shell (transmission line/1/4 wave/horn) design. It works well with most 12 and sounds amazing with a RE XXX(www.reaudio.com). Well here it is.

Those can sound great. Damn shame they are not ergonomically sound for use in a car (too much space)...

It could easily fit in your trunk. Unless your going for weight reduction of course. This is in the back of my J30, and I havent noticed a big drop in accelleration.

dody doody doo. That is not a true transmission line enclosure. The purpose of a transmission style enclosure is to "simulate" an Infinite baffle in a small area. This is done by a "tube" that bends and folds over itself and is usually lined with a sound absorbtion material such as 'glass, wool, dynamat, etc...

*edit* I just looked at the picture a bit more. You may have a transmission style enclosure there, but if that is indeed the case then the large port opening is a waste because there should be very LITTLE, if any at all, air movement coming out of it.

What you have there is a ported enclosure with the port horn loaded. This is known to give a bit of a dB increase over a regular port.

Nope, he's correct:

While it would fit in my trunk, I would not have a trunk left to carry groceries nor my golf clubs

I didnt say it was a true transmission line, however it uses some of it characteristics.

The only true difference in your config vs. a true TL is probably the length of the port. A true TL is tuned where the port length is appx 3/4 the length of the sound wave. That would be a pretty long port

YEp, You're correct Aud.

Bose, even nthough I don't like them, uses the transmission line enclosure in those little corner systems that they sell. If you've ever cut into one, a quick way to lose $1k, you would see that the port winds around and totals close to 10ft!

Those are tiny speakers that have short wave lengths. A good twelve can put out a 3-4 meter wave . I built an T line that took up the entire turnk of my old accord. It could make the trunk near jump off the hinges and blow the sunroof open but the sub would bottom out because there was no pressure holding it from making the cone max out. Ide love to build another but the trunk of the vert just isnt very big .
