I was just in Advance Auto Parts and overheard an employee talking about this, which I found very interesting. No it's not the site to store crap, you can actually call the store and they will deliver your parts to your home, whether you're an everyday DIY customer or a commercial customer. Delivery used to only be available to commercial accounts only.

There are some catches of course though:

-You must live within a 10mi radius of the store
-Delivery will be free on each order exceeding $75, if the amount is less than $75, then a $9.99 delivery charge will apply to your order.

I think this is a potentially smart move personally, I can think of numerous times that I would have happily forked over $10 to have a part delivered to my house, rather than trying to figure out how to get to the store, when my car is down. While I've usually always had a spare vehicle, it still would be very helpful at times. I'm sure people will take advantage of the system, but I personally hardly ever order from the store anymore. I usually order whatever I need online and pick it up from the store, to avoid dealing with potentially being put on hold, or having to deal with the lines and employees at the store.

And... Discuss.

You forgot hookers, Dave.

But seriously- regardless of the amount of time to be delivered, it sure beats riding to the store with a battery on your bicycle because your friends are all committed to some prior event or just plain suck.

"Mom, can you pick me up to go to Autozone?"

'why'

"My car's broken"

***listens to an earful on the phone about "That piece of junk"***

Actually, no they don't offer parts delivery to just anyone. It's manager's discretion, and sure as hell not a corporate mandate.

I just went there for a friend of mine's battery and they said hell no. And they said it's the same for all stores.

Well he's an idiot and needs to get his crap straight before spouting off crap to customers.
Advance Auto Parts, a leading automotive aftermarket retailer of parts, accessories, batteries, and maintenance items today announced an industry first—a home delivery service and parts program called “DIY Home Delivery.” The concept is simple: Advance will deliver parts to customers when and where they need it most.

“We’re always listening to our customers,” says Advance Auto Parts CEO Darren Jackson. “And they needed us to bring convenient solutions to them in the moment—and that’s not always in-store. DIY Home Delivery is a way for us to serve our customers in a way that makes their life easier, and it just reinforces our promise that service really is our best part.”

According to Jackson, DIY Home Delivery was a natural extension of Advance’s in-store service commitment, and spurred on by hundreds of customer stories pointing to the need for the program.

“Your family car is up on blocks and you realize you also need new brake rotors. You’re replacing your timing belt and you need a new tensioner too. These situations happen to people every day,” says Regional Vice President Ralph Gonzalez. “But if the vehicle is on blocks, or it simply won’t start, you’re out of luck. You need the store to come to you – and that’s exactly what our Home Delivery program does.”

Highly qualified Advance team members are on standby at local Advance stores to provide quick, custom solutions – and in most cases, delivery within a few hours. Delivery is free for all orders over $100. Visit http://www.advanceautoparts.com or http://www.aapmobile.com and click on the store locator or call 1-877-ADVANCE (238-2623) to find participating locations.
That is only about a month old, so he's obviously a moron and needs to quit making up company policies. I worked for Advance for 6 years and there's idiots in every location, that think they know everything. There are tons of local newspapers in various states reporting about the same service and every single store in my area are participating as well. So while every store may not be doing it yet, there's obviously quite a bit doing it, so it's only a matter of time before everywhere will. The guy even offered the service when he answered the phone as part of his greeting, so I'm fairly confident that he wouldn't do that just because they decided to. Its not up to a single store to decide to use their commercial vehicles however they choose, first the Commercial District Manager would have to approve, then the District Manager, then the Regional Manager, and so on.

It's nice to know I'm wrong, I've been in situations where the service was needed pretty badly.

You know...the first time I changed the oil on the LS, I bought a filter at Auto Zone (walmart doesn't carry filters for my car for whatever bizarro reason), went home, drained oil, removed old filter, went to install new filter only to find I had bought the wrong one. Thanks in whole to Auto Zone's misprinted reference book, which thinks the Duratec 30 and AJ30/35 have the same filter (protip: they don't).

If I hadn't had my dad's truck on hand to take back to auto zone to buy the correct filter I would have been stranded. Home delivery would have been an appealing solution. I'd have argued against the $10 fee, though, considering it was their damn book that screwed me over.

Awesome, combine this with online ordering from the store so you can use the $40 off of $100 coupon and you're golden!

Call Advance Auto.
Explain what you need.
Request delivery of part.
Wait.
Wait.
Wait.
Receive part.
Find out it's the wrong thing.
Repeat.

Did you go back and pencil in the correct filter?

Nope. I did tell them to get their s*** fixed, but they just said there was nothing they could do about it. I didn't even think of correcting the book myself.

Sounds like a halfway descent idea.

I live in a crowded suburb just outside the city and there are plenty of auto stores everywhere and a new Autozonre that I can walk to in 10 mins. But, I have found myself stranded before and so have a few people I know that live in the backroads
