just curious.. would you guys respect a man that rocked advan knockoffs (such as say, konig mp3s) on a 92 fastback thats already very tastefull modded? ive seen a lot of really nice looking "knockoff" rims, and considering the wheels that they recreate usually go for around 1500 a set... what do you guys think? thanks

as long as it is clean and tasteful, then there is no harm in rolling on a knokoff rim.I myself roll on Konigs.

I wouldnt do the mp3s though. Knockoff rims are usually okay, but if they're copying such a signature wheel like that, I really dont think its respectable. A copy of a semi-generic looking is one thing, a copy of a distinctive style is another... imo

some people go for style, some people go for authenticity and some people go for both. For me it comes down to the simple matter of money, and i haven't much money. So my choice is just style, even if what i get is an knockoff. The only thing i don't like is when someone gets a knockoff item and then claim its authentic. So i don't believe there would be anything wrong with gettin a set of advan knockoffs. you gotta work with what you got.

LOL was thinking of getting the same rims (Konig Mp3's)

i LOVE THE 3 spoke wheel style, but dont have thousands to spend on the advans, so how bout some 300$ knockoffs? i would get them, but the offset is way too high, like +44 i think

so yeah, i dunnoim getting them, and i thnk u should too, at least till we have enough $ for some wantanabes or some real advan or blitZ

It depends on whether or not you want to be able to use the name brand. As long as you dont lie to people and tell them they are the brand that they arent it should be all good. I was thinking about getting some Exel rims from wheelmax because they reminded me of R33 wheels. http://www.wheelmax.com/Wheels/exel/king.gif

wow i thought id get flamed lol seriously though if i could afford 1500 advans, id get them and call them advans. but since all i really love about them is the style, id be just as happy with rolling konig mp3s, and calling them konig mp3s. its allllllll good

I wouldn't flame you, but do consider that most knockoffs are heavyass/weak cast steel (w/lots of impurities and air bubbles) which would increase your rotational mass/and possibly break. Of course there are exceptional knockoffs as well. In my opinion, you can get a nice set of z rims which are light/and stylish in my opinion for the same price.. (although it'd require a 5 lug car)

<--- its all about brand name.... I won;t buy nothing that doesn't have a reputable brand name stamped on it. Thats just the way I am with everything. With baseball its all about the Mazuda glove and redline or louisville bats.

I seriously dislike knock-offs. I know I for once, get relaly peeved when i see a car with (the many) TE37 rip-offs and see its a konig or something I go "ah..rice." just beuase the person wants to look of a fast and tuned car, but doesnt want to actually do what it takes to get it.

such as getting a gt-3000 body kit for a N/A supra....-chet

I got the 17" MP3's and they look pretty good. I think that Konig is a quality manufacturer and see no problem with owning them, verse the $1500 so for the Advans which I cannot afford (but would rather have). I don't try to play them as though they are Advans, cuz their not. I could only affod the $385 for the MP3's.

I hate knock-off wheels as well--Because then all the common boobs think the person with the real wheels, who cared about the quality/name just have some cheapo brand.

BTW--Anyone notice the po-po car in the driveway of that pic in the link?!?

buy what fits your needs and your wallet, don't worry about what others think. knockoffs aren't rice, they're competition. i'd do the same, but konigs all come in WEAK *** offsets and sizes and that's why knockoff's suck. but if you can make them work with spacers and whatnot then go for it.

spacers are not "mnaking it work" they're "jury rigging it"

spacers can and will ruin a cars lugs, hub and other items, get the correct wheel. DO it once, DO it right.-chet

the last car i owned had after market rims with hub-centric spacers and i felt they served they're purpose. I never had any problems with my wheels. they are american racing pinzettis i think... they were kinda ugly at first but they grew on my after a while... kinda like a bad fungus. anyway, they held snow like no other as well.

you can get used advans...they don't cost alot, and if you have 1500 to spend, you can snag some used volks or advans off e-bay. Though the 3 spoke advans....the one's i NEED, are way to much, even used.

I like them alot. The offset put the bead right at the edge of the wheelwell.

I'm with markEmark, I personally would only buy the real thing, even if it took longer to save up for if it was for my pride and joy. But if it's just your daily, heck kragen rims look good to me.

I got nothing against other people using knockoffs. I used to have a set of knockoffs and i will never own a set again, poor quality, poor paint finish, heavy, "honda" offsets, etc....

I agree. If you can find a knockoff with proper sizing, offset, and made well, go for it. I don't know of any knockoffs (at least in the states) that are, however.
